Thu, 26 Jan 2012 00:33:36 -0800 Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo tops the 10 first base prospects mentioned on MLB.com for the 2012 season. Following in order are Yonder Alonso (Padres), Jonathan Singleton (Astros), C.J. Cron (Angels), Chris Parmelee (Twins), Matt Adams (Cardinals), Neftali Soto (Reds), Chris Marrero (Nationals), Alex Dickerson (Pirates) and Dan Vogelbach (Cubs).
Sun, 08 Jan 2012 19:43:48 -0800 San Diego Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said Sunday, Jan. 8, that he didn't want to create a "quarterback controversy" at first base. Rather than have 1Bs Yonder Alonso and Anthony Rizzo compete for the job, Rizzo was traded to the Chicago Cubs.
Sun, 18 Dec 2011 00:20:55 -0800 The San Diego Padres plan to use 1B Yonder Alonso at first base and keep 1B Anthony Rizzo in Triple-A for more seasoning, although the team has acknowledged Rizzo might be dealt.
Sat, 17 Dec 2011 10:48:01 -0800 Updating a previous report, the Cincinnati Reds have acquired SP Mat Latos from the San Diego Padres for SP Edinson Volquez, P Brad Boxberger, OF Yonder Alonso and C Yasmani Grandal. Fantasy Tip: Latos' skills are still worth buying, but without the comforts of pitching in PETCO Park, he loses a little bit of luster. At least he has a competent offense backing him now. He's closer to a No. 2 mixed starting pitcher than a fantasy ace, but he could fly as one and not yield a big drop-off. Volquez's move to San Diego makes it more attractive to take a chance on his shaky control straightening out to match his enticing dominance, which would make him a valuable backend mixed SP. Alonso, meanwhile, has a clearer path for playing time but still might have to worry about Anthony Rizzo. Depending on San Diego's plan, Alonso warrants a mixed flier and a more confident NL-only buy, even in his less helpful environment. Grandal's attractive keeper stock probably won't reach the bigs for at least another season. Boxberger profiles as a future closer and is worth monitoring.

Thu, 15 Dec 2011 15:06:31 -0800 The Oakland Athletics are asking for Cincinnati Reds OF Yonder Alonso and a top catching prospect in any trade that would involve SP Gio Gonzalez.
Thu, 01 Dec 2011 07:22:00 -0800 Cincinnati Reds OF/1B Yonder Alonso said he has lost 18 pounds this offseason.
Tue, 29 Nov 2011 06:26:26 -0800 A rival general manager said Cincinnati Reds OF/1B Yonder Alonso doesn't have a position. "He's terrible in the outfield. His best position is first base - and he's not great at first, either," the GM said. Another GM said: "He has to be one of the top hitters in the game to have significant value. You'll probably always be looking to move him to DH."
Sun, 27 Nov 2011 12:02:17 -0800 The Chicago White Sox have expressed interest in trading for Cincinnati Reds OF Yonder Alonso.
