Athletics | Yonder Alonso sits versus southpaw

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 14:52:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Yonder Alonso is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Martin Perez Monday, July 25. 3B Ryon Healy is starting at the hot corner and batting seventh, with 3B Danny Valencia moving across the diamond to play first base.

Fantasy Tip: Healy has held his own with a .278 average, two homers and seven RBI in his first 36 at-bats in the majors and is worth a look for depth at corner infield in AL-only leagues. He's merely a deep sleeper in DFS this evening, though. Alonso has picked things up at the plate in July with a .269 average but still has just one homer and nine RBI on the month and is a very average fantasy commodity with limited power.

Athletics | Coco Crisp scratched from lineup

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 11:23:30 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (neck) was scratched from the starting lineup Sunday, July 24, because of neck soreness. OF Jake Smolinski will start in center field. 3B Danny Valencia will start in right field, while 1B Yonder Alonso will start at first base and is batting eighth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso is hitting only .220 with one home run and six RBI against left-handed pitchers this season and probably should be avoided in most leagues.

Athletics | Coco Crisp, Yonder Alonso sitting

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 14:34:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays left-handed SP Matt Moore Thursday, July 21. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in center field and is batting eighth, while 3B Ryon Healy draws in at third base and is hitting ninth. 3B Danny Valencia moves across the diamond to first base and SS Marcus Semien is batting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: With a lefty on the bump, Crisp and Alonso are rested. Smolinski doesn't move the DFS needle much hitting that low in the order. He's a desperation stab. Healy has looked good so far but is untested and also has limited upside hitting ninth tonight. Both Valencia and Semien have good power and are nice value selections for daily gamers against the lefty.

Athletics | Oakland resting three players

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:48:01 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick, C Stephen Vogt and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Tuesday, July 19. 3B Danny Valencia will start at first base and is batting third. OF Khris Davis will start in left field, while 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth. C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia is hitting only .214 over the last seven days but should still be a decent starting candidate. Butler is hitting .250 this month and can be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues. McBride is hitting under .200 this season and should be avoided in most leagues.

Athletics | Yonder Alonso drives in three

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 00:23:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Yonder Alonso drove in a season-high three runs Monday, July 18, in a 7-4 win over the Houston Astros. Alonso has a .259 average and is slugging .360.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso has always been under the fantasy radar, but it appears he has found a decent team to show off his talents. Alonso can be used as a low-cost flyer in DFS leagues and is a solid player to store in deep AL and mixed formats.

Athletics | Oakland resting three starters

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 11:23:08 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp, C Stephen Vogt and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Sunday, July 17. 3B Danny Valencia will start at first base and is batting fourth. OF Khris Davis will start in left field, while 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth. C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia is hitting only .162 this month but should still be a decent fantasy option because of the numbers he has posted so far this season. Butler has at least one hit in five of the last seven games and has two RBI during that span. He should be a decent sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues. McBride has not done much since being recalled and can be avoided in most leagues.

Athletics | Oakland resting three starters

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 15:09:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt, 1B Yonder Alonso and OF Billy Burns are not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Tuesday, July 5. 1B Billy Butler will start at first base and is batting sixth in the lineup. OF Coco Crisp will start in center field, while OF Jake Smolinski will start in left field and is batting eighth. C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler has been playing better lately and is hitting .333 with one home run and 10 RBI against left-handed pitchers. He should be a decent option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Smolinski can be a sleeper option for owners because he is hitting .429 with one home run and four RBI over the last seven days. McBride is hitting .250 since being recalled from the minor leagues but is not a strong fantasy option.

Athletics | Oakland sitting four starters

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 11:35:18 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie, C Stephen Vogt, 1B Yonder Alonso and OF Billy Burns are not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano Sunday, July 3. 1B Billy Butler will start at first base and is batting sixth in the lineup. OF Jake Smolinski will start in right field and is batting seventh. C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting eighth, while 2B Tyler Ladendorf will start at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler is hitting .310 with one home run and nine RBI against left-handed pitchers this season and can be an option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Smolinski is hitting .462 with one home run and four RBI over the last seven days and can be a sleeper option in daily leagues. McBride and Ladendorf should not be used in any leagues.

Athletics | Several OAK regulars sitting out Sunday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 08:22:12 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt, 1B Yonder Alonso and OFs Max Muncy and Billy Burns are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP John Lamb Sunday, June 12. 1B Billy Butler will bat fifth and play first base, while C Josh Phegley will bat seventh and start behind the plate. In addition, OF Khris Davis (hand) will bat cleanup and play left field, while OF Jake Smolinski starts in right field and bats eighth.

Fantasy Tip: The A's are facing a left-handed pitcher this afternoon, which explains why their lineup is stocked with right-handed batters and switch hitters. Phegley and Smolinski should be viewed as productive sources of salary cap relief in daily fantasy games.

Athletics | Danny Valencia out again vs. Brewers

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 12:52:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (illness) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 8. 1B Yonder Alonso is starting at third base and batting sixth, and DH Billy Butler is starting at first base and batting fifth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia has missed some time this season and been limited to just 155 plate appearances, but he's made the most of them and posted a .343/.387/.580 slash line with 26 runs, nine home runs and 22 RBI. He should be owned in all fantasy formats. Alonso and Butler are low-end options in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, and you likely should aim higher in daily contests Wednesday.
