Fri, 07 Jun 2013 16:08:59 -0700 San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) could be out four-plus weeks with a fractured bone in his right hand, but he's hoping more for only three weeks. Fantasy Tip: You can probably get away with dumping Alonso in shallow mixed leagues since he'll be out at least a month. In his stead, look for the Friars to mix and match at first base with Jesus Guzman and Kyle Blanks. It's unclear which player will receive more time, and they'll probably eat into each other's time. Neither are very attractive pieces in mixed formats unless it's a cavernous league.
Fri, 07 Jun 2013 08:44:28 -0700 San Diego Padres OF Yonder Alonso (hand) could be out a month with a fractured hand.
Thu, 06 Jun 2013 14:44:12 -0700 The San Diego Padres will place 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) on the 15-day disabled list with a right hand contusion Thursday, June 6, to make room for the return of OF Cameron Maybin (wrist) from the DL. 1B Kyle Blanks will remain on the roster. Fantasy Tip: Jesus Guzman and Blanks could split duties at first base with Alonso out, although both hit from the right side. They're both worthy of looking at in deep mixed leagues. Alonso hasn't played since last Friday, so the Padres can back date his DL stint to allow him to return soon.
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 20:43:37 -0700 San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) is still sore, and he was out of the lineup again Wednesday, June 5. Alonso hit Tuesday, June 4, and apparently the volume of hitting caught up to him. However, a stint on the 15-day disabled list is considered unlikely.
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 10:35:48 -0700 San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) is regaining strength in his right hand and could return to the lineup later this week. He was hit on the hand by a pitch Friday, May 31.
Sun, 02 Jun 2013 20:49:28 -0700 San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) missed the game Sunday, June 2, against the Toronto Blue Jays due to a bruised right hand, although he was able to take swings in the cage prior to the game. "I feel a lot better than I did yesterday," Alonso said. "I actually took some swings today, so hopefully I'll be back within a day." Fantasy Tip: Alonso appears to be near a return, and he is a safe play in NL-only fantasy leagues for the upcoming week, although be prepared for him to potentially sit for one more game.
Sat, 01 Jun 2013 09:11:34 -0700 San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) left the game in the ninth inning after being hit on the right hand by a pitch Friday, May 31. X-rays were negative, however, and he was diagnosed with a bruised hand. Fantasy Tip: This doesn't seem too serious. If Alonso misses time, expect Kyle Blanks to see the majority of starts at first in his absence. Blanks is only an option in really deep leagues.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 11:38:13 -0700 San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso went 3-for-4 with two RBIs Tuesday, April 16, for his first three-hit game of the year. He's in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak (13-for-31) to raise his average from .191 to .327. He has three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs during the stretch. Fantasy Tip: You shouldn't ignore players on hot streaks such as this, and Alonso is available in a decent amount of mixed leagues. Take a peek if you need some help at corner infield.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 00:58:22 -0700 San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (elbow) suffered a slightly hyperextended left elbow Wednesday, April 3, against the New York Mets, but Alonso's X-rays turned out negative and he was back in the lineup the very next day.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 21:30:05 -0700 San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) was hit on the hand by a pitch in the Cactus League spring game Tuesday, March 26, and his hand was swollen. Fantasy Tip: After the game, Alonso said he could grip a bat, so it appears he dodged a more serious injury. He remains a decent low-end 1B or CI in deeper NL-only fantasy leagues heading into the regular season.
