Padres | Brett Wallace batting cleanup

Mon, 02 May 2016 16:16:13 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Brett Wallace is starting at third base and batting cleanup Monday, May 2, against Colorado Rockies SP Jon Gray.

Fantasy Tip: Good lord, Wallace should not be batting cleanup for any major league lineup in 2016. Alas, that is the current state of the Padres and their lackluster offense. Wallace has put together decent stretches before, but really hasn't been relevant in fantasy baseball in about a handful of years since his days in Houston. He might be worth a stash in the deepest leagues, in case this becomes more of a regular occurrence and he strings together some quality at-bats.

Padres | Two starters sitting for Padres

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 12:58:33 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris and 3B Adam Rosales are not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Mike Leake Sunday, April 24. Brett Wallace will start at third base and is batting fifth, while C Christian Bethancourt will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace has only one hit in 16 at-bats this season and should be avoided in all leagues. Bethancourt has gone 3-for-16 in limited playing time this season and is not a strong fantasy option.

Padres | Brett Wallace hitting cleanup

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 15:45:28 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Brett Wallace is hitting cleanup and playing third base Saturday, April 16, with 2B Cory Spangenberg out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace is just 1-for-10 (.100) on the season. The spot in the lineup is nice, but he doesn't have much upside against Shelby Miller right now.

Padres | Brett Wallace playing third base Saturday

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 11:27:55 -0700

San Diego Padres INF Brett Wallace will bat cleanup and start at third base against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller Saturday, April 16. INF Alexi Amarista, who played the hot corner Friday, April 15, will start at second base Saturday, with 2B Cory Spangenberg receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace is 1-for-10 with five strikeouts and should be avoided in daily fantasy leagues during his ice-cold stretch at the plate, despite the fact that he's hitting in a favorable spot in the batting order.

Padres | Wil Myers out Tuesday

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 13:01:57 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Wil Myers is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 12. 1B Brett Wallace is in the lineup and hitting fourth.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a normal day off for Myers, who can play both left and first base. Don't be surprised to see him available off the bench in a pinch. In the meantime, Wallace is hitless in four at-bats and carries no fantasy value.

Padres | Yangervis Solarte to open at 3B

Mon, 08 Feb 2016 16:08:34 -0800

San Diego Padres 3B Yangervis Solarte spent spring training last year preparing for a super-utility role, but he spent most of the 2015 season at third base while hitting .270/.320/.428 with 14 home runs and 63 RBI. Solarte also hit .292 after the All-Star break. As a result, he's expected to be the starting third baseman in 2016. 2B Cory Spangenberg can also play there, and 1B Brett Wallace can spell him, too.

Fantasy Tip: Solarte is useful mainly in deep mixed leagues because of his positional versatility, and he can provide power in spurts. He had 11 of his 14 home runs from the left side, so he's also a sneaky daily play against certain right-handers.

Padres | Justin Upton sitting against Brewers

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 12:56:57 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton (neck) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. 1B Brett Wallace draws into the lineup and is batting fifth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Taylor Jungmann Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) left the game because of a neck strain Wednesday, Sept. 30, and his status for the weekend is unknown at this point. It isn't out of the question to add a healthy replacement in seasonal leagues, especially if your in need of counting stats. Wallace ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) owns a 1.019 OPS against righties this season, so he is a viable low-priced target for FantasyScore players Thursday.

Padres | Brett Wallace in lineup Sunday

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 11:17:16 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Brett Wallace will bat fifth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Godley Sunday, Sept. 27. 1B/OF Will Myers is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is batting .297 with two home runs and four RBIs this month and is hitting .319 at Petco Park this year. FantasyScore owners looking for a value option at first base should consider him for their lineups.

Padres | Justin Upton receiving a breather

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 15:27:03 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 16. OF Wil Myers moves back to the outfield, while 1B Brett Wallace draws the start at first base and is hitting cleanup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) surprisingly has been good against lefties this year mainly in a pinch-hitting role. You shouldn't test that any further with him on FantasyScore tonight, though. Avoid him.
