Fri, 10 Feb 2012 12:15:03 -0800 The San Francisco Giants plan to use C Buster Posey (leg) at first base this year around once a week to lessen the wear and tear on his body behind the plate. "(My ankle) feels good and has progressively gotten better and better," Posey said. "The biggest concern, I think, coming back from this was to gain my range of motion back, and I feel like I completely have my range back almost 100 percent. If it's not 100 percent, it's really close." Posey is hoping to take part in the team's spring opener March 3 and it's realistic to think he can play in the regular season opener April 6 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Mon, 06 Feb 2012 00:23:02 -0800 San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey will try a traditional two-piece catcher's mask during spring training instead of the goalie-style catching mask he has previously used. The worry among coaches on staff was Posey's mask left him more vulnerable to concussions and head trauma due to foul balls.

"I started taking batting practice on the field about three weeks before I thought I would. Timing is a huge part of hitting. I'm optimistic it'll be pretty smooth." Defensively, Posey hasn't had any problems crouching but admitted that his left ankle doesn't feel the same as before. He is expected to get the bulk of his playing time behind the plate but will also see some time at first base.

"We talked about ramping up his conditioning program in January," Groeschner said. Posey is working out at his home in Georgia, and is doing mostly cardiovascular work. The team expects Posey to be ready to participate in drills when they begin spring training workouts in mid-February.
Mon, 05 Dec 2011 22:00:21 -0800 San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said C Buster Posey (leg) still wants to catch, but it would help the team and keep Posey fresh if he spends time at first base. "We'd like to get him out there as much as we can without wearing him down," Bochy said Monday, Dec. 5. "With him coming off his injury, there's a little question how much we can catch him back there, and we'll know more in spring training."

"I've been running straight, but this was the first time I tested it running corners," Posey said. "I was out there turning a lot. I thought it went well. No problems." He is near the end of a 45-day workout routine in Arizona as he rehabs from a broken leg. Posey will end his rehab Nov. 5 and return to a normal offseason program.
