Orioles | Brian Matusz to bullpen

Fri, 29 Mar 2013 12:36:21 -0700

Baltimore Orioles RP Brian Matusz will start the season pitching out of the bullpen. OF Chris Dickerson was reassigned to minor league camp Friday, March 29.

Fantasy Tip: Matusz excelled in relief last season, and the O's decided he helps their club best by staying there. This ruins his fantasy value for now, but it helps Baltimore in the long run. It's not out of the question that he will be a starter again at some point.

Orioles | May add another reliever

Thu, 03 Jan 2013 23:46:30 -0800

Baltimore Orioles general manager Dan Duquette has said he would be open to adding another relief pitcher, even though he has a full relief corps. The Orioles currently have CL Jim Johnson and RP's Pedro Strop, Darren O'Day, Luis Ayala and Troy Patton. RP Tommy Hunter is a likely candidate to return, as is RP Brian Matusz. "The bullpen was strong last year," Duquette said. "These guys are at the age where some of them should improve and a couple of them should be able to maintain and perform at the level they did this past year, but that wouldn't preclude us from adding some additional depth to our pitching staff."

Orioles | Brian Matusz on track for spring training

Wed, 07 Nov 2012 14:22:05 -0800

Baltimore Orioles SP Brian Matusz (abdominal) is on track to be ready for spring training after undergoing surgery to fix a rectus abdominis tear last month. "It didn't get worse; it actually stayed the same," Matusz said of the injury, which prevented him from sprinting but didn't bother him lifting or on the mound. "(I'm) doing rehab-type work right now. ... Within the next couple weeks, I plan on starting to lift heavy weights again. It's healing pretty quick." The team will look at him as a starter again next spring.
