Thu, 05 Apr 2012 16:54:48 -0700 Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost officially named RP Jonathan Broxton as the team's closer Thursday, April 5. "It's not going to be a tandem," Yost said. "Broxton is coming in if we have a save situation (Friday) in the ninth inning. If we have a save situation in the eighth inning, (Greg) Holland is coming in, and then we're going to turn it over to Broxton." However, Yost wants to refrain from using Broxton three consecutive days, so if that's the case, RP Greg Holland will receive an opportunity. RPs Aaron Crow, Tim Collins, Kelvin Herrera and Jose Mijares will be used earlier in games. RP Everett Teaford will serve as the long man out of the bullpen.

"Even though (SPs Danny Duffy and Felipe Paulino) have a leg up on those spots, there are still things that have to happen in order for them to cement those spots," Yost said. "These other guys are guy who, if they do what they're supposed to do, could slide in."
Fri, 09 Mar 2012 22:26:09 -0800 Kansas City Royals SP Aaron Crow is characterized as a "contingency plan" by manager Ned Yost, in case one of the other competitors for a rotation spot fall apart down the stretch in spring training.

Mon, 08 Aug 2011 17:03:42 -0700 Kansas City Royals RP Aaron Crow (shoulder) developed shoulder tightness or stiffness shortly after the All-Star break. "We sat him for a couple of days. He felt better. Then he developed some forearm tightness, and we sat him for a couple of days. This was all right after the All-Star break. He feels great now, but he just hasn't been as sharp." As a result of his injury, the team has gone more to RP Greg Holland to set up RP Joakim Soria in the ninth inning.
