Braves | Gordon Beckham to start rehab soon

Tue, 03 May 2016 23:37:11 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) will begin his minor-league rehab assignment Saturday, May 7, and he might come off the 15-day disabled list for next week's series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Beckham in all but the deepest of NL-only fantasy leagues when he is able to return.

Braves | Gordon Beckham begins running

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:55:16 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) began running Monday, April 25, and he will begin extended-spring training games Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has limited fantasy value because he will only see occasional to semi-regular at-bats, and he is nothing more than a depth option in NL-only leagues. His return will likely cut into the playing time of Kelly Johnson, Jace Peterson and Daniel Castro, too, which makes them all low-end options across fantasy formats.

Braves | Gordon Beckham not worried about injury

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 16:33:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) said he expects to be ready to return when his disabled list stint is up. An MRI exam confirmed there is no tear in his left hamstring. Beckham dealt with a similar injury in spring training, so Atlanta wanted to be cautious. He was 6-for-16 (.375) with a double and four RBI in five games before his injury after starting 1-for-9. He can come off the DL May 2.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham was platooning at second base with Jace Peterson before his injury, and he hit only .209 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 100 games with the Chicago White Sox in 2015. With limited playing time, Beckham doesn't provide fantasy owners much at all.

Braves | Gordon Beckham placed on disabled list

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 13:21:07 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring Monday, April 18. The transaction is retroactive to Sunday, April 17. In a corresponding move, P Ryan Weber was recalled from Class AAA Gwinnett.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham is a low-end option in all fantasy formats and should be replaced with a healthy body. Jace Peterson projects to handle the keystone with Beckham out, but Peterson has limited fantasy value and should be left to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Weber has been pitching out of the bullpen with Gwinnett, so he is a fantasy afterthought at this stage.

Braves | Hector Olivera, Jace Peterson resting

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 12:05:11 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Hector Olivera and 2B Jace Peterson are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals left-handed SP Gio Gonzalez Tuesday, April 12. OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in left field and is hitting fifth, while 2B Gordon Beckham is at the keystone and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Both Frenchy and Beckham don't have many at-bats to begin the season. Francoeur has some pop and is slightly more attractive in daily games tonight, but both players are nothing more than low-end desperation picks.

Braves | Jace Peterson out Friday

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 11:49:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson is not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals left-handed SP Jaime Garcia Friday, April 8. 2B Gordon Beckham is starting at the keystone and is hitting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson and Beckham will split time at second base throughout the year, but neither is very attractive to fantasy owners in mixed leagues. Beckham hit a measley .209 with six homers and 20 RBI with the Chicago White Sox last year. Avoid Beckham in daily games today.

Braves | Jace Peterson a super-utility player?

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 11:17:58 -0800

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson is moving around this diamond this spring and could become a super-utility player for Atlanta to give them more options in the lineup. Other infield options like 2B Gordon Beckham, 3B Adonis Garcia and OF Kelly Johnson could help Peterson become more productive in certain matchups. Beckham could split time at second with Peterson. Peterson has played second base, shortstop, third base and left field this spring.

Fantasy Tip: More avenues for playing time should help Peterson's fantasy cause, but all the possible platoon situations in Atlanta aren't enticing to fantasy owners. Peterson's best asset is his speed, but he doesn't make much contact and lacks power. He's an NL-only player for now.

Braves | Jace Peterson the starter at 2B

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 09:42:50 -0800

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson remains the starter at second base, according to manager Fredi Gonzales. However, Gonzales said 2B Gordon Beckham could see some at-bats there against tough left-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: There's not a whole lot to like about Peterson. He walks plenty, but he doesn't make a whole lot of contact and lacks power. He hasn't translated on-base percentage into many stolen bases, either. He's purely middle infield depth in NL-only leagues.

Braves | Gordon Beckham looks to start over

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 21:58:14 -0800

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham might push 2B Jace Peterson for the second base job in spring training, and he also could be used in a platoon role or serve in a utility capacity.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham had a poor year offensively with the Chicago White Sox, but Peterson didn't exactly burn it up in his first full year in the majors either. Peterson has the upper hand for now, but this is a battle worth watching into the spring.

Braves | Gordon Beckham headed to Atlanta

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 09:39:41 -0800

Free-agent 2B Gordon Beckham (White Sox) signed a one-year, $1.25 million deal with the Atlanta Braves Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham is likely to fill a utility infield role with the Braves, much like the one he served with the Chicago White Sox. He's mostly been a disappointment in the majors, and he hit just .209 (44-for-211) with six home runs in limited duty in 2015. Beckham is strictly depth for your fake infield in NL-only formats.
