Orioles | Matt Wieters, Pedro Alvarez out

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 12:26:56 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP John Danks Thursday, April 28. C Caleb Joseph is behind the plate and is batting ninth, while OF Nolan Reimold starts again in left field and is hitting seventh. OF Mark Trumbo is serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: All Orioles players have some intrigue in Baltimore tonight facing the very hittable Danks. Joseph's daily value is limited while hitting ninth, however. Alvarez is off to a slow start (.186, no home runs) and could be benched regularly against lefties. Pay up for Trumbo tonight.

Orioles | Nolan Reimold draws in vs. southpaw

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 12:47:44 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Nolan Reimold is starting in left field and batting eighth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Wednesday, April 27. DH Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Reimold had a .374 on-base percentage against southpaws last season, and he stands as a viable flier in daily contests Wednesday. In yearly leagues, he still should be left to cavernous mixed and AL-only formats. Alvarez is off to a horrific start (.186/.314/.256 slash line through 51 plate appearances) and doesn't project to see many at-bats against lefties when showing well at the dish to begin with. He is quickly becoming a tough start in all fantasy formats.

Orioles | Slump-busting game for Pedro Alvarez?

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 18:59:36 -0700

Baltimore Orioles DH Pedro Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles Monday April 25, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: It might not be a slump-buster, but it's a start. He entered the game with just one double, and even after the four total bases he is still hitting just .150. Fantasy owners and DFS players cannot depend on him just yet, but this could be the start of a hot streak finally.

Orioles | Pedro Alvarez takes a seat

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 13:28:24 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Pedro Alvarez is out of the lineup Saturday, April 23, with OF Hyun-soo Kim hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Kim is 3-for-6 in sparse playing time after a brutal spring training. He could be a low-end DFS option at a basement price against Kris Medlen.

Orioles | Pedro Alvarez sitting Thursday

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 12:11:12 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Mark Trumbo is serving as the designated hitter, which allows OF Nolan Reimold to start in right field. Reimold is hitting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Marco Estrada.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez could find himself on the bench more often because of a 4-for-32 (.125) start with seven strikeouts. Reconsider him for a roster spot in mixed formats. Reimold has his daily upside limited because he's hitting ninth, but he already has two homers on the year and faces a decent matchup.

Orioles | Pedro Alvarez doing very little

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 21:40:43 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Pedro Alvarez served as the designated hitter Tuesday, April 19, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He was hitless in four at-bats to drop his average to just .143.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez was added for his offense, but so far he is hitting a measly .143 with no home runs and just one RBI. Fantasy owners and DFS players will want to avoid him until he gets more comfortable at the plate.

Orioles | Pedro Alvarez back in lineup

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 15:39:06 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Pedro Alvarez is hitting eighth Saturday, April 16, against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez was out the last two games against left-handed starters. He is just 3-for-21 (.143) on the season, but his big power could break out at any time. He's still a low-end option in DFS.

Orioles | Pedro Alvarez out against Texas

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 14:00:50 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 14. OF Nolan Reimold draws into the lineup in right field and is batting ninth against Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez has struggled thus far going 3-for-21 to start the season, so it isn't out of the question to bench the slugger until he turns it around offensively. Reimold is a potential low-priced flier for daily contests given his respectable .267/.348/.414 slash line against southpaws dating back to the 2014 season.

Orioles | Pedro Alvarez out Monday

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 08:09:42 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Pedro Alvarez is out of the lineup Monday, April 11, with C Matt Wieters hitting fifth as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters is hitting .341 in 44 career at-bats against David Price and isn't a bad catcher option today.

Orioles | Pedro Alvarez resting on Saturday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 13:56:50 -0700

Baltimore Orioles DH Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly on Saturday, April 9. C Matt Wieters will move over to designated hitter and bat sixth while C Caleb Joseph will serve as SP Mike Wright's battery-mate behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez signed with the Orioles in mid-March and predictably struggled during the spring, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise the ex-Pittsburgh Pirate is 0-for-12 to begin his Baltimore career. Owners should know the drill with Alvarez by now; occasional outbursts of power accompanied by a low batting average. As long as your team can take the hit in average, he can be a boon to the HR and RBI categories.
