Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood will serve as the team's No. 5 starting pitcher to open the season, with SP Edwin Jackson to open in the bullpen. However, Wood will be slotted into the No. 4 starting post so the Cubs don't have back-to-back lefties in the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Wood's ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) first start of the season lines up at the Colorado Rockies next Friday. We don't recommend using the veteran southpaw at Coors Field at FantasyScore in his season debut.

Chicago Cubs SPs Travis Wood, Edwin Jackson, Felix Doubront and others are battling to be the fifth starter this season.
Fantasy Tip: The others would include Justin Turner and Tsuyoshi Wada. This is a battle to monitor throughout spring training, as the winner will hold value in deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats. Continue to check back for updates.

Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood has not been told by the team about the likelihood of his being traded, but Wood has accepted it as "part of the business" if he is dealt.
Fantasy Tip: Wood's status on the team was more cemented until the team signed Jason Hammel and Jon Lester in free agency. Right now, Wood will battle Tsuyoshi Wada and Felix Doubront for the fifth spot and could lose out. Watch this battle accordingly.

Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood allowed five runs - two earned - and seven hits with one walk over five innings in a no-decision Friday, July 25, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He recovered after a rocky start, allowing three runs in the first inning.
Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Wood settled down and allowed himself to stay in the game, because he homered in the fourth inning to help his own cause. He remains nothing more than a stopgap NL-only fantasy option in head-to-head. His 7-9 record, 5.06 ERA and 1.53 WHIP does little for rotisserie owners.

Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood has posted 20 walks over his past six starts (34 1/3 innings), and that's more free passes over the past 30 days than any other pitcher in the majors. He is 1-3 with a 4.98 ERA during the span with an opponent batting average of .277 and a 1.63 WHIP.
Fantasy Tip: Wood has struggled with command problems all season, walking 48 batters over 110 2/3 innings, but lately it has been worse. Right now he should only be used in deeper NL-only head-to-head formats and some deeper mixed rotisserie leagues for his strikeouts.
