Tue, 14 May 2013 14:19:32 -0700 Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said the team may use a six-man rotation when SP Matt Garza (lat) returns to the team. Fantasy Tip: Travis Wood, Scott Feldman and Carlos Villanueva have all been carrying their weight in the rotation, so Sveum might find it too hard to bump one of them to the bullpen to make room for Garza. Don't expect the six-man rotation to last for long, though, so those three might be competing to stay in the rotation in their next few starts.
Sat, 11 May 2013 11:57:29 -0700 Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said when SP Matt Garza (lat) returns from the disabled list, the team will not use a six-man rotation. He added that SPs Jeff Samardzija, Edwin Jackson and Travis Wood won't be moved to the bullpen.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 16:29:08 -0700 Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood has been pushed back one day in the rotation, meaning he will not make his scheduled start Sunday, April 21, against the Milwaukee Brewers, but he will pitch Monday, April 22, against the Cincinnati Reds instead. Fantasy Tip: Wood loses his two-start status for the current week for those who rolled the dice on him in NL-only head-to-head fantasy leagues. The good news is that he is on tap for two starts next week - one against his former team, the Reds, and two, a favorable road start next weekend against the lowly Miami Marlins. He is worth a look in deeper NL-only play.
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 18:49:21 -0800 The Chicago Cubs are expected to give SP Travis Wood every opportunity to win a spot in the starting rotation because they are desperate for a solid left-handed pitcher.
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 12:37:41 -0800 Chicago Cubs SP Matt Garza (lat, elbow) could begin the season on the disabled list depending on the results of his MRI exam. Both SPs Travis Wood and Carlos Villanueva could begin the year in the rotation as a result, with SP Scott Baker (elbow) also expected to start on the DL.
Thu, 14 Feb 2013 12:48:34 -0800 Chicago Cubs P Carlos Villanueva will likely be used in relief, according to manager Dale Sveum. SP Travis Wood would currently have the edge for the final rotation spot this spring.
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 21:54:58 -0800 Chicago Cubs SPs Scott Baker, Scott Feldman, Carlos Villanueva and Travis Wood are all in competition for the final two rotation spots. "Gotta fight for the job," Wood said Tuesday, Feb. 12. "May the best man win." Feldman likely has the inside track for a spot, as he is a former 17-game winner for the Texas Rangers back in 2009.
Mon, 23 Jul 2012 17:27:02 -0700 Chicago Cubs SP Matt Garza (triceps) felt better Monday, July 23, but will likely be skipped in the rotation for at least one start. SP Travis Wood will likely make the start Friday, July 27, in his place. "Garza is better today - there's some improvement," manager Dale Sveum said. "(His arm is) not quite extendable, but he doesn't seem to be concerned about it. I think (Tuesday) will be the big day to do the evaluation. That's when we'll have to make some decisions and line up stuff." Garza won't throw a bullpen session Tuesday, July 24. Garza isn't worried that he'll land on the disabled list.
Mon, 02 Jul 2012 05:47:13 -0700 Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood allowed three hits and no walks while striking out four in 7 2/3 shutout innings to beat the Houston Astros Sunday, July 1.
Tue, 26 Jun 2012 06:03:26 -0700 Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood allowed five hits and a walk while striking six in seven shutout innings to beat the New York Mets Monday, June 25.
