Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood has had his next start pushed from Sunday, Sept. 8, to Monday, Sept. 9, against the Cincinnati Reds, making room for SP Scott Baker (elbow) to work Sunday.
Fantasy Tip: Wood is 0-3 with a 3.67 ERA in four starts against his former team this season, although Cincinnati is hitting just .204 against him. He might be in line for two starts in the upcoming week for head-to-head fantasy league owners, so he is worth using in most NL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats.

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Tuesday, July 9, that despite the fact SP Travis Wood is scheduled to start Sunday, July 14, he might still get a chance to pitch in the All-Star Game July 16 at Citi Field in New York. "It will all depend on how Sunday goes," Sveum said. "(San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy) can use him for a left-handed hitter. It's going to be a side day anyway. I've got no problem with him pitching one inning, or 20 pitches. He goes all out on his side days anyways."

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey, Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw, Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin, St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright, Washington Nationals SP Jordan Zimmermann, Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee, Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez, Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood, Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke and RP Jason Grilli, San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner, Atlanta Braves RP Craig Kimbrel and Cincinnati Reds RP Aroldis Chapman have been named to the National League team for the 2013 All-Star Game.

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said the team may use a six-man rotation when SP Matt Garza (lat) returns to the team.
Fantasy Tip: Travis Wood, Scott Feldman and Carlos Villanueva have all been carrying their weight in the rotation, so Sveum might find it too hard to bump one of them to the bullpen to make room for Garza. Don't expect the six-man rotation to last for long, though, so those three might be competing to stay in the rotation in their next few starts.

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said when SP Matt Garza (lat) returns from the disabled list, the team will not use a six-man rotation. He added that SPs Jeff Samardzija, Edwin Jackson and Travis Wood won't be moved to the bullpen.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 16:29:08 -0700
Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood has been pushed back one day in the rotation, meaning he will not make his scheduled start Sunday, April 21, against the Milwaukee Brewers, but he will pitch Monday, April 22, against the Cincinnati Reds instead.
Fantasy Tip: Wood loses his two-start status for the current week for those who rolled the dice on him in NL-only head-to-head fantasy leagues. The good news is that he is on tap for two starts next week - one against his former team, the Reds, and two, a favorable road start next weekend against the lowly Miami Marlins. He is worth a look in deeper NL-only play.

The Chicago Cubs are expected to give SP Travis Wood every opportunity to win a spot in the starting rotation because they are desperate for a solid left-handed pitcher.

Chicago Cubs SP Matt Garza (lat, elbow) could begin the season on the disabled list depending on the results of his MRI exam. Both SPs Travis Wood and Carlos Villanueva could begin the year in the rotation as a result, with SP Scott Baker (elbow) also expected to start on the DL.

Chicago Cubs P Carlos Villanueva will likely be used in relief, according to manager Dale Sveum. SP Travis Wood would currently have the edge for the final rotation spot this spring.
