Andrew Brown Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Andrew Brown MLB and fantasy baseball news
Sat, 18 May 2013 11:24:34 -0700 According to a team source, the New York Mets could demote struggling 1B Ike Davis to the minor leagues as soon as next week. Members of the organization's front office are reportedly more in favor of the move than manager Terry Collins. Davis snapped an 0-for-24 streak against the Chicago Cubs Friday, May 17. Fantasy Tip: OF Andrew Brown, who was recently demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas, played first base for the first time this season Friday, and would appear to be the most likely candidate to be called up if Davis is sent down. INFs Zach Lutz and Josh Satin are also candidates, although Satin is not on the 40-man roster.
Mon, 13 May 2013 12:55:59 -0700 The New York Mets optioned OF Andrew Brown to the minors Monday, May 13, to make room on the active roster for OF Rick Ankiel.
Fri, 03 May 2013 16:45:47 -0700 Updating a previous report, New York Mets OF Andrew Brown made his debut in right field, batting eighth in manager Terry Collins' order, against the Atlanta Braves Friday, May 3.
Fri, 03 May 2013 14:45:59 -0700 New York Mets OF Collin Cowgill was sent to the minors because he was overswinging after hitting a grand slam on opening day. OF Andrew Brown was brought up to breathe life into the outfield. Collins mentioned how Brown was hitting lefties well at Triple-A Las Vegas. Brown was hitting .286 (8-for-28) against lefties and .400 (28-for-70) against righties. Fantasy Tip: It looks like Collins plans to use Brown mainly against left-handed pitchers, and he could spell Ike Davis at first base on days the team faces a tough lefty. Juan Lagares will mainly be used as a defensive replacement late in games, so at the moment, Brown looks to have more value in NL leagues than Lagares.
Fri, 03 May 2013 13:12:47 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins will consider using OF Andrew Brown some at first base even though he didn't play first base at all at Triple-A Las Vegas.
Fri, 03 May 2013 12:11:14 -0700 The New York Mets optioned OF Collin Cowgill to Triple-A Las Vegas Friday, May 3, to make room on the roster for OF Andrew Brown. Cowgill was hitting only .157 (8-for-510 with two home runs and eight RBIs this year, and he was hitless in his last 13 at-bats and made a costly error earlier this week. Brown was hitting .367 (36-for-98) with two home runs and 27 RBIs in 25 games at Las Vegas, and he had an active 11-game hitting streak and led the Pacific Coast League with 13 doubles. Fantasy Tip: Brown is mainly for outfield depth, but he could split playing time in center field with Juan Lagares. Temper some of the offensive expectations for Brown, since the PCL is probably the most hitter-friendly league in the minors. For now, he's only an option in NL leagues unless he receives consistent playing time.
Thu, 02 May 2013 13:33:20 -0700 The New York Mets plan to recall OF Andrew Brown from Triple-A Las Vegas for their weekend series against the Atlanta Braves. Fantasy Tip: This move is likely just for outfield depth, but don't be surprised if Brown receives a start this weekend to try and shake things up in the outfield. For now, consider Brown a flier in NL leagues unless he proves himself and gains more playing time from Terry Collins.
Sun, 24 Mar 2013 23:11:04 -0700 The New York Mets have reassigned C Travis d'Arnaud to minor league camp along with SSs Brian Bixler and Brandon Hicks, RP Aaron Laffey and OFs Andrew Brown and Jamie Hoffmann. d'Arnaud's demotion was widely expected, but general manager Sandy Alderson said d'Arnaud would be recalled before June if something happens to C John Buck.
Thu, 07 Feb 2013 17:10:19 -0800 New York Mets OF Zach Lutz is making the transition from third base to the outfield this spring, and he started work on the move with outfield coach Tom Goodwin at the team's spring training complex. Lutz went 1-for-11 in his major league debut last year in seven games but hit .299 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs in 294 plate appearances at Triple-A Buffalo. 2B Justin Turner will also get a look in the outfield. They will be competing with OFs Marlon Byrd and Andrew Brown.
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 17:29:12 -0800 New York Mets OF Marlon Byrd is expected to compete with OF Andrew Brown for the team's fifth outfield job in spring training. OFs Lucas Duda, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Mike Baxter and Collin Cowgill are also in the mix for New York.
