Cincinnati Bengals LB Rey Maualuga may still receive a suspension even though his assault charge was dismissed after the two sides came to an agreement in mediation. Maualuga was suspended one game in 2010 but was able to win his appeal of the suspension.

A judge has dismissed an assault charge against Cincinnati Bengals LB Rey Maualuga after learning the dispute was settled in mediation. Maualuga was charged with misdemeanor assault after an employee at a downtown bar told police that the middle linebacker punched him in the face Feb. 5. The case was referred to mediation. Maualuga appeared briefly in Hamilton County Municipal Court Thursday, April 26, for an update. Judge Heather S. Russell dismissed the case after prosecutors said neither Maualuga nor the bar employee wanted to pursue the matter.

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals LB Rey Maualuga could face a suspension from the NFL if he was part of a bar fight and alcohol was involved because he has already been fined two game checks for an alcohol-related arrest. The league's Substance Abuse policy states a second offense likely brings a suspension and the length of the suspension could increase if the player is a repeat offender.

Cincinnati Bengals LB Rey Maualuga was reportedly involved in a downtown bar fight over the weekend and injured the manager. Maualuga allegedly punched the manager, causing injuries. The incident happened near closing time at the bar. "One of them said something at which point I repeated myself, that they had to leave, and then Rey Maualuga got up, took three or four steps and punched me in the face, more noticeably the eye, then my nose started to bleed," said manager Sammy Laham. "Then security diffused the situation."
