Continuing a previous storyline, New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush, via Twitter, congratulated rookie RB Mark Ingram on being selected by the Saints and added Ingram "will be a great addition to the Saints backfield just as he was in Alabama." This followed Bush's tweet saying: "It's been fun New Orleans." It sounded like Bush thought the addition of Ingram to the Saints will push him out, which may be true. Bush, however, may have overreacted.
Head coach Sean Payton gave strong indications the Saints had every intention to keep Bush moving forward, and implied the two sides talked before the lockout about some form of contract extension to lessen the amount Bush is owed this year. Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis have always seemed to view him as an important part of the team and the addition of Ingram doesn't necessarily make him expendable. Trading Bush would be difficult, and releasing a player with his talent may not appeal to the Saints.
The Saints, with the addition of Ingram, now have a deep backfield with Bush, Pierre Thomas, Chris Ivory and Lynell Hamilton on roster.
