Kevin Lynch, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz said during an interview with NFL Network that he believes TE Vernon Davis is the best in-line blocking tight end in the NFL and he is probably the second best pass protector on the team next to OT Joe Staley. Because of that, Martz said he would limit Davis's catches to 30 per season.

"I don't know if anyone in the league can run like he can at that position," Martz said. "He gets down the field so fast. I don't know who beats him in a footrace." Martz also said Davis worked harder than any other offensive player on the team during the offseason.

NFL.com reports San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz denied many of the alleged facts of Spygate Thursday, May 15. Martz made it clear that the St. Louis Rams lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVI because they turned the ball over three times. Martz said any information that could have been obtained from the walkthrough practice would not be significant unless it was filmed or purposely scouted for information. Martz also said he finds it hard to believe that Walsh was on the sidelines of the Rams walkthrough in Patriots apparel. "I find that insulting, disturbing and a slap in the face to both our team security and NFL security, who both do outstanding jobs. I promise you that if he was on the sideline, he was not in New England Patriots apparel because he would have been identified," Martz said.
