Fina has also drawn interest from Washington but would prefer to sign with Arizona because he lives in Tucson, said his agent, Eric Metz. Fina likely would sign for the minimum salary of $750,000.

Bill Williamson reports for the Pioneer Press Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Tice wants to look for a new offensive tackle as he feels rookie OT Bryant McKinnie may not sign this year. "I'm going to get me a tackle," Tice said Saturday. "It could happen as soon as Tuesday. I'm moving on. Right now, I don't think McKinnie is even coming in this year. It doesn't look good." They may sign an available free agent such as John Fina, Matt Campbell, Ben Coleman or Robert Hicks. The Vikings and McKinnie's agents did not communicate Saturday after McKinnie's agents, Jim Steiner and Ben Dogra, refused the Vikings final offer on Friday.

The Democrat and Chronicle reports Buffalo Bills GM Tom Donahoe said he "expects" TE Jay Riemersma to remain with the team for the 2002 season. "I think some of the things with Jay unfortunately got blown out of proportion, " Donahoe said. "I've seen his name in various places as a cap casualty but that's not coming from us. We expect him to be here and we expect him to be an important part of our team." Last year Donahoe said certain veterans were "expected" to be with the team and they were later released. Releasing OT John Fina and Riemersma clears approximately $5.525 million in cap space for the team. It's possible Riemersma could re-work his contract, but Donahoe said no talks have started.

Neither has been ruled out for Sunday, but the best-case scenario would have them serve as emergency backups. G Jerry Ostroski (broken leg) practiced Wednesday and Thursday, but he was held out Friday and it is clear he isn't completely recovered. Fina is expected to be replaced by rookie Marques Sullivan, while Jon Carman steps in for Jennings for the second straight week. The offensive line situation is a big problem for a team that has struggled to run the football and protect QB Rob Johnson.
