Former NFL head coach Tony Dungy said the Detroit Lions asked him if he was interested in their head coaching position but told them he was not interested. Dungy did give the Lions a glowing recommendation of Jim Caldwell, who was hired by the Lions as their new head coach.

Eagles | Playoffs may have changed Chip Kelly's mind

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly may have changed his mind about coaching at the pro level after watching Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick perform in the divisional round playoffs last weekend, according to former NFL head coach Tony Dungy. "Could it be that Chip Kelly watched the playoffs and watched Russell Wilson run a little bit of his read option in the spread offense, and watched Colin Kaepernick run a little bit more of it?" Dungy said. Dungy added he believes Kelly watched the playoffs thinking, "My offense is way farther advanced than that, and maybe if this is going through the NFL, it might not be so tough."

Titans | Had bounty on Peyton Manning?

Former NFL head coach Tony Dungy said the Tennessee Titans at one time at a bounty out for Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning. "I know they had them in Tennessee," Dungy said via text. Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams also had a bounty on Manning in Super Bowl XLIV.

Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy said during a radio interview the team should select Stanford QB Andrew Luck in the NFL Draft if they have the opportunity. At that point, Dungy added, the team could even look at trading QB Peyton Manning. "I would see him competing and playing as long as he wanted," Dungy said of Manning. "If it gets to the point to where, hey, he comes back and it looks like he's gonna play three or four more years, and you say - we've got Andrew Luck, we've got an asset - we trade him (indicating Manning)."

NFL | Plaxico Burress joins anti-violence programs

Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Giants) will work with the National Urban League and Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence after spending nearly two years in prison on a weapon possession charge. Burress said Monday, June 13, he would be mentored by Magic Johnson and Tony Dungy through the Brady Center. He'll volunteer with Urban League youth programs and recruit other pro athletes. Burress said he has "an opportunity to make a difference."

Former NFL head coach Tony Dungy said he is not interested in becoming a general manager of the Minnesota Vikings, according to Judd Zulgad and Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The firing of head coach Brad Childress brought speculation about whether Vikings owner Zygi Wilf will reconfigure the front office and bring in a football boss to run the operation and have final say on decisions. Dungy, who served as the Vikings defensive coordinator before becoming a head coach, said he has strong ties to the area and is close friends with interim head coach Leslie Frazier.

Jason La Canfora, of NFL.com, reports the Seattle Seahawks' contact with former head coach Tony Dungy about their team president position violated NFL rules, according to sources. Technically, Dungy still has a valid contract with the Indianapolis Colts, which does not expire until March. The Seahawks were apparently unaware of the contract and figured they could contact Dungy directly.

Chris Mortensen, of ESPN.com, reports the Seattle Seahawks reached out to former NFL head coach Tony Dungy to become their team president. Fritz Pollard Alliance chairman John Wooten said Dungy turned down the opportunity. Wooten said, "They called Tony about three weeks ago to see if he would seriously consider becoming their president. He told them he wanted to pray and sleep on it but the next day he called them back and said he wanted to stick with everything he was doing now. He would have been the guy, I believe, if he had wanted to do it."

ESPN.com reports former NFL head coach Tony Dungy said Tuesday, Oct. 13, he is not currently interested in taking on a front-office role. "No, probably not," Dungy told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. "I mean, you never say never but I had a great job in football (that I left) to pursue my mission right now. That's my focus. There was a reason I stepped down from my job with the Colts. And I had an opportunity to stay on board there in a front-office capacity." The Tampa Bay Buccaneers reportedly have shown interest in adding Dungy to their organization. "My answer is I don't know anything about it," Dungy said. "I have absolutely not been contacted by the Bucs, formally or informally in the organization."

"I advised Michael Vick not to go there," Dungy said. "I said, 'Mike, you might be able to start there but that is not a good place for you.'"

Vick met with Dungy to discuss his life after he gets out of prison.

John Oehser, of Colts.com, reports Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy said LB Gary Brackett (fibula) could be available next week if the team were to win its playoff game versus the San Diego Chargers. "It's hard to say," Dungy said about when Brackett might return. "He still hasn't practiced yet, so I don't think it's imminent. I think if he could get out and practice next week, we would certainly play him. I don't know where he is. We'll find that out, probably, on Tuesday if we win."

The Associated Press reports with a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars during Week 16, the Indianapolis Colts locked up a spot in the 2008 playoffs. It is the eighth consecutive playoff berth. Colts head coach Tony Dungy said the team will be able to rest many starters during Week 17 now that they are in. This will allow ailing players such as RB Joseph Addai (shoulder), WR Marvin Harrison (hamstring) and LB Gary Brackett (leg) as many as 17 days of extra rest before the team begins the postseason.

ESPN.com reports Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy has denied Internet reports that he has already made his decision on returning to the Colts for the 2008 season. He expects to have made up his mind about whether or not to return to the team either Saturday, Jan. 19, or Sunday, Jan. 20. Dungy plans to tell team owner Jim Irsay his decision Monday, Jan. 21. "My wife and I will continue to discuss it and pray about it," Dungy said. "We should have some type of decision by Saturday or Sunday. The first person outside my family that will know about it is Jim Irsay on Monday morning, and nobody else will know about it before Jim."
