Jets | Can win without an accurate QB?

Fri, 08 Mar 2013 07:15:46 -0800

New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said there is not a certain completion percentage benchmark that he'll need his quarterback to reach in order to win in 2013. Mornhinweg added that he has seen quarterbacks have great seasons without great completion percentages. "Some of the great ones have really not thrown for such great accuracy," Mornhinweg said. "Steve Young was astronomical accuracy-wise. Brett Favre wasn't. Brett Favre, I believe won an MVP two different times out of the three times that he won it, throwing 58, 59, 60 percent, somewhere in there. So they all come in different shapes and sizes." QB Mark Sanchez completed just 54.3 percent of his passes last season, ranking 30th of 32 qualifying quarterbacks.

He can get better there and he has gotten better over the past couple of years there. He certainly can get better there. Eagles | Offensive unit still needs to get better

Tue, 08 Aug 2006 11:44:53 -0700

During his press conference Tuesday, Aug. 8, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg addressed the progress of the offense, particularly the second and third units, who both struggled versus the Oakland Raiders in the Hall of Fame Game Sunday, Aug. 6. "Donovan [McNabb] played pretty well and that was a pretty good start. And, that first unit, the timing was pretty good. It was only nine plays and three passes, but it was a pretty good start. Now, that group can get better though. There are still a few things in there that we can get better at. Second, going with the other units, and none of the quarterbacks played particularly well - we expected much better from them. The ball is coming out of their hand, and they are responsible for everything that happens with the football when it comes out of their hand. However, we have to play better as a unit. Our timing has to be better and in general our whole execution."

"L.J. and Matt kind of remind me of that type of situation, where you can put some heat of the defense, putting them on the same side, splitting them out wide, or one tight and one in the slot. Eagles | Mornhinweg update

Fri, 06 Jan 2006 19:04:45 -0800

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg has not stated if he would remain on the field or if he will move to the press box. Mornhinweg said, "When you are on the field, you have more control. You can look at the players eyeball-to-eyeball, and that is a big positive down there. Upstairs, there is no question you can see better. (But) you lose some of the face-to-face contact that you have with the players and a bit of the motion and the feeling, which occasionally is important." Mornhinweg also discussed his offensive philosophy, saying, "Whatever it takes to win that particular game we are going to do, and certainly you need to run the football in a physical manner in certain situations. RB Brian Westbrook is such a great running back, and we do need to get the football to him." Mornhinweg has seen success as an offensive coordinator before when he was with the San Francisco 49ers from 1997 to 2000. The team finished below sixth in scoring only once under Mornhinweg's watch. His 1998 team was the first since the 1941 Chicago Bears to lead the league in rushing and passing yards.
