"Obviously, you look at the film and you like what you see on film. As we all know, from the collegiate level to the pro level there are growing pains. Every quarterback goes through it. But he's got such a big upside."

However, that's not a given, according to Shanahan, who said the issue of whether the prized rookie starts immediately will depend on the young quarterback's progress during the offseason and training camp. "You put him in there when you feel like he's ready to go," Shanahan said.
Wed, 21 Mar 2012 09:03:29 -0700 Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, general manager Bruce Allen, head coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, among others, are in attendance at Baylor QB Robert Griffin III's Pro Day Wednesday, March 21.

However, for Shanahan, lack of depth was the biggest issue. "Well, I think we were a playoff-caliber offense this year," Shanahan said. "But we didn't have the depth that you need to go through a season. You can't lose your left tackle, your left guard, your center. You can't lose your starting running back and tight end, especially your tight end that's your best blocker in Chris Cooley..."
Wed, 25 Jan 2012 05:29:35 -0800 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said he currently does not have a franchise quarterback on his roster and hopes to acquire one through the NFL Draft. If you don't have a franchise quarterback and you say you're not looking for one, then you usually won't be working for very long. Everybody wants that guy. People that usually do have that guy are consistently winning."

I thought we might keep those players a little longer than we did." The Redskins have lost at least 10 games for the second consecutive season.
Tue, 13 Dec 2011 05:03:40 -0800 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has not been pleased with team captains losing their poise during games and drawing penalties. Although head coach Mike Shanahan planned to reward his players with a day of rest after their Week 1 victory over the New York Giants, the players declined. Instead, they told their coach that they're coming to work and want to get better.
Fri, 26 Aug 2011 07:45:59 -0700 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan declined to say following the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 25, which quarterback is in the lead, or even if he had seen enough to make a determination as to whom his starter for Week 1 will be. QBs Rex Grossman and John Beck are in compeition for the job. "I've been telling you guys from Day 1 and I'll keep on saying the same thing. We're going to evaluate them all the way through camp, all the way through the last preseason game and possibly up until the day before we play the Giants," Shanahan said. "It all depends on if someone separates themselves … As I've said before, I feel very good about both quarterbacks, we can win with both of them. They've played well enough to date for people to see that, even outside our organization, and hopefully they keep on playing well."

Wed, 06 Oct 2010 12:14:57 -0700 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said RB Clinton Portis (groin) will miss four to six weeks with a third degree separation of his groin, reports The Washington Post. Fantasy Tip: Portis' injury means that Ryan Torain should be the main back for the Redskins for the next four weeks, at least. Torain rushed for 70 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4. This injury solidifies Torain's value as a top acquisition this week. Chad Simpson and Keiland Williams could receive some carries while Portis is out, but they should not be considered as ownable at this time. If owners are desperate for a roster spot because of injuries or bye weeks, they should strongly consider cutting Portis.

The Titans definitely would welcome back Haynesworth, a team source said, but maintained that the Redskins' asking price was still too high. The Redskins are believed to want at least two draft picks for Haynesworth.
Sun, 29 Aug 2010 15:05:54 -0700 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and DT Albert Haynesworth appear to have ended their feud, reports The Associated Press. I've got a job to do, and Albert's got a job to do, and his job is to be the best football player he can possibly be, and it's my job to see to it." Haynesworth joked Friday, Aug. 27, that he was heading to Shanahan's house for dinner and a cigar and that he didn't remember his remarks from the week before.
Mon, 23 Aug 2010 04:15:58 -0700 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said DL Albert Haynesworth must practice if he wants to play in games this season, according to Thomas George, of NFL FanHouse. "One thing for sure that is clear to me is that Albert has gotten away in the past with playing without practicing," Shanahan said. "That will not happen under this regime. If he's going to play, he's going to practice, and that is the same with every player here. The days of him playing without practicing are over. And that, to me, says it all." As far as the condition that Haynesworth is reported to possibly have - rhabdomyolysis - that concerns muscle fiber damage, Shanahan said he was not aware of that.
Sat, 14 Aug 2010 04:30:55 -0700 Washington Redskins DL Albert Haynesworth did not spend much time describing his relationship with head coach Mike Shanahan, which would appear to indicate the two are not on the best of terms, according to Rick Maese, of The Washington Post. "...We expect him to come in in great shape and do the things that he's capable of doing. And hopefully he does that," Shanahan said. "He hasn't shown up for minicamp, so guys are gonna be looking at him, to see what type of shape he's in, if he's willing to do the little things the right way. And time will tell. If he is buying in, and he is in great shape, we know what type of talent he is, and we know he can help our football team win."

Tue, 20 Apr 2010 05:57:57 -0700 Jason La Canfora, of NFL.com, reports Washington Redskins DL Albert Haynesworth has been upset with the team since head coach Mike Shanahan told the lineman that he wanted him to clog space in the middle and that if he got more than two sacks in a season, something was wrong. Haynesworth views himself as a defensive tackle who attacks opposing quarterbacks.
Sat, 10 Apr 2010 07:19:49 -0700 Thomas George, of NFL Fanhouse, reports Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said he could use Florida QB Tim Tebow on special teams initially if the team were to select him in the NFL Draft due to his size and physicality. "I think the guy is such a competitor. Wherever he ends up playing he will do a good job," Shanahan said. "He is such a worker. How are you going to use him? How long will you give him to develop? He is such an athlete. You know he is going to work. Maybe you put him on special teams. He has the size of a linebacker or tight end. He is not afraid of hitting people. It's a way to use him more and early on the 45-man roster. I wouldn't hesitate to do that.''

I am just looking for him to come in and work and be like everyone else," Shanahan said. "No, we're not going to trade him at all, unless someone gives us something we would have to consider - that's pretty standard with any player on your roster. He's a pretty smart guy. He's really talented. I think I can get that out of him.''

"We had too many chiefs and not enough Indians," Haynesworth said, referring to the coaching staff. "That's kind of what it was, everybody wanting to be that guy. It was kind of a little ridiculous. Now we've got one chief, and some Indians to follow him ... Now you've got a respected coach in there, I think it'll get back to the normal NFL norm."
Sun, 21 Mar 2010 14:52:18 -0700 Jason Reid, of The Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan are installing a much more advanced west coach offense than the one former head coach Jim Zorn ran the past two seasons. "You just see how professional it is and guys are doing things the right way," Campbell said. "Usually in the past, guys wouldn't be focused like this right now. A lot of guys who showed up (for the voluntary offseason conditioning program) wouldn't be here in the past. And even in the weight room, a lot of guys just used to do their own thing. But it's all structured now. There's a plan for everything we're doing."
