Redskins | Kyle Shanahan defends zone-read plays

Wed, 12 Jun 2013 16:29:47 -0700

Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said the club doesn't have to eliminate the option running elements in order to protect QB Robert Griffin III (knee). Echoing his father, head coach Mike Shanahan, Kyle Shanahan contended that the read-option plays safeguard Griffin by taking steam out of opposing pass-rushers. Griffin was hurt on improvisational runs and merely needs to work on picking his spots to slide or throw the ball away when facing QB pressure. The younger Shanahan said that they might have to adapt more as defenses plan better for the system.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin is a borderline QB1 on draft day with well-known upside. If you take him, just make sure to draft a capable backup in case he can't start the season on time.

Redskins | More on Roy Helu

Thu, 06 Jun 2013 11:31:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins RB Roy Helu (foot, Achilles') said it has been a long time since he has felt as healthy as he currently does after participating in practice Thursday, June 6. Head coach Mike Shanahan was happy to have him back on the practice field. "It's fun to have him out there," Shanahan said. "Hopefully he keeps on getting better and better. In the meantime, we have a guy that weighs 225 pounds [the Redskins list Helu at 215]. He's under that 4.5 40, has the receiving skills and the opportunity to make the big play. So it's good to have him back and a chance to compete."

Redskins | Robert Griffin can't rush his recovery

Wed, 24 Apr 2013 10:31:09 -0700

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan stressed that QB Robert Griffin III (knee) must continue to guard against rushing his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin may be tempted to rush his recovery to be ready by Week 1, but it is something he will have to stay away from. As long as he continues to make progress over the summer and avoid set backs, his fantasy football value should continue to rise.
