Chargers | Danny Woodhead involved in passing game

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 09:39:12 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead will remain involved in the passing game and on third downs.

Fantasy Tip: Two years ago, Woodhead caught 76 balls for 605 yards and six touchdowns. Now 30, coming off a broken leg and Melvin Gordon present, he's unlikely to approach those career marks. He's still a name to consider near the end of PPR drafts.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead looks to be healthy

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 19:01:32 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (ankle) missed 13 games last season due to a broken ankle, but he appeared fast and healthy in offseason work.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead will have plenty of company in the backfield with highly-touted rookie Melvin Gordon in the mix, as well as Branden Oliver. Woodhead should reprise the role of third-down back and red-zone option, making him a decent late-round addition as a potential flex play.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead ready to return

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 11:45:06 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead said he wants to be the same person this season as he was before suffering a season-ending broken ankle in Week 3 last year. "I think I am [the same person]. That's the main thing -- getting comfortable and going out and doing it, and then showing yourself that you can do it again," Woodhead said. Head coach Mike McCoy praised Woodhead's work ethic and isn't surprised he's ready to play again.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead's specialty is catching balls out of the backfield. He has three top-25 finishes in point-per-reception leagues since 2011. He could very well have had another one if he hadn't been injured last season. If he can maintain his good health, he's a low-end RB2 candidate in PPR formats.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead fully healthy

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 22:47:24 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (ankle, leg) is healthy, according to head coach Mike McCoy. "He looks the way (he did) the snap before he went down (in Week 3)," McCoy said Monday, June 8.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead is worth a late-round flier on draft day, but he’ll have plenty of competition for touches in the San Diego backfield with Melvin Gordon, Branden Oliver and Donald Brown in the mix.

Chargers | Melvin Gordon to be eased in?

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 19:59:11 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon isn't going to be expected to be an every-down back as a rookie, and RB Danny Woodhead and RB Branden Oliver will still have roles.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon has the skills to play all three downs, but he likely won't be a bell-cow back for the Chargers from Day 1. He should still be considered the top fantasy option in San Diego's backfield, but he should be drafted as a mid-level RB2 with plenty of upside.

Chargers | Search for RB continues

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 18:01:47 -0700

The San Diego Chargers remain in search of a fourth option at running back after RB Ryan Mathews turned down their one-year contract offer in favor of signing with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason. The agent for Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson was dismissive at the notion of any potential trade to the Chargers Wednesday, March 25. The Chargers seem likely to address the need via the NFL draft. Only RB Danny Woodhead, RB Branden Oliver and RB Donald Brown are under contract for 2015.

Fantasy Tip: As things currently stand, expect Oliver to be the workhorse on the ground, while Woodhead could be a decent option in PPR leagues. Brown possesses the least fantasy value as of now, but things could change drastically during the draft and/or training camp.

Mon, 16 Mar 2015 15:11:54 -0700

San Diego Chargers RBs Branden Oliver, Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead remain on the team's roster, but the Chargers are expected to look to add another running back after losing RB Ryan Mathews to the Philadelphia Eagles. Chargers | Danny Woodhead to take things slow

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 14:46:08 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (leg) planned to be ready for full workouts in around 12 weeks but will take things slow since his season is over.

Fantasy Tip: Donald Brown and Branden Oliver will handle the running back duties until Ryan Mathews is able to return. Brown likely will receive most of the work and could be a fantasy option against some matchups.
