The Dallas Cowboys have several assistant coaches without a contract for 2012, and head coach Jason Garrett is hopeful they'll be able to return. Secondary coach Dave Campo, Running game/offensive line coach Hudson Houck, Secondary/safeties coach Brett Maxie, assistant offensive line coach Wesley Phillips, offensive quality control/wide receivers coach Keith O'Quinn and running backs coach Skip Peete are the coaches who are without a deal. "I feel great about our staff and how we've worked really hard, and again, we'll address that at a later time," Garrett said Monday, Jan. 2.

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan said the club has decided not to hire Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach Dave Campo for their vacant defensive coordinator position. "I don't think he's ready to make any kind of decision," Campo said of Nolan. "I think he feels like he's a little bit rushed and doesn't want to do that. I don't have anything to report, other than it's status quo." Campo later added, "I'm going to move on."

Updating previous reports, Bart Hubbuch, of the Florida Times-Union, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to make the hiring of Dave Campo official this week. Campo, who has agreed to become the Jaguars' assistant head coach and defensive backs coach, will be hired once he is officially fired from the Cleveland Browns. Campo served as the Browns defensive coordinator last season.

The Associated Press reports the Cleveland Browns have hired former Dallas Cowboys assistant Clancy Pendergast as their new linebackers coach. “Clancy is a great addition to our staff,” Browns head coach Butch Davis said. “He has an extensive background with Dave Campo and is an excellent teacher who continually pushed his players to be consistent.” Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Don Banks reports for CNN/SI Dallas Cowboys DTs coach Andre Patterson is expected to be named the Cleveland Browns defensive line coach sometime early next week, reuniting him with Dave Campo, his former boss. The deal is pending Patterson's interview with Browns head coach Butch Davis Sunday in Mobile, Ala., site of next week's Senior Bowl. Patterson interviewed Thursday at the University of Alabama, where new head coach Mike Price was interested in naming him defensive coordinator. The Washington Redskins also has expressed interest in Patterson, on the condition that defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis leaves to become Cincinnati's new head coach.

"I am very pleased to have Dave Campo join our staff in Cleveland," Head Coach Butch Davis said. "He is an outstanding person and a tremendous teacher, and he will have a significant impact on our players. We have an excellent history together both philosophically and schematically, and I have a great deal of respect for his many accomplishments as both a defensive coordinator and head coach."

The AP reports the Cleveland Browns interviewed former Dallas Cowboys coach Dave Campo for their vacant defensive coordinator position on Wednesday. Browns spokesperson Todd Stewart said Campo was returning to his home in Dallas. Stewart said the team does not expect to make any announcements for several days. "He'd be a very nice and comfortable fit," Browns president Carmen Policy said in an interview on radio station WTAM. "But no job offer has been made."

The Dallas Morning News reports Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells have been able to clear some obstacles that would open the way for Parcells to coach the team. Those obstacles include salary and the hiring and firing of assistant coaches. A source said the Cowboys had not yet offered Parcells the job. A third meeting has not been scheduled, the source said. Reportedly, the Cowboys plan to fire coach Dave Campo and announce it at a news conference Monday afternoon. Another source said Jacksonville and Detroit have not contacted Parcells about their potential openings. Reportedly, the Cowboys have discussed a salary in the $4 million to $4.5 million per year range.

The Star Telegram reports there are people other than Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo on the hot seat. Some players could be in their final season with the Cowboys as a result of salary issues: FB Robert Thomas ($1 million), TE Tony McGee ($755,000), WR Raghib Ismail ($4 million), TE Jeff Robinson ($1.1 million) and CB Dwayne Goodrich ($437,000). The players aren't necessarily going to be cut, but could all be asked to restructure their contracts if they want to stay in Dallas. The Cowboys are approximately $5 million under the salary cap for 2003.

Jean-Jacques Taylor reports for the Dallas Morning News Dallas Cowboys coach Dave Campo told his players Tuesday to play for themselves, not for him Saturday against Philadelphia. He said only owner Jerry Jones knows Campo's fate for the 2003 season. Campo's job status has come under scrutiny because Jones has been ambiguous about whether the coach would return for a fourth season. If Dallas does not win each of its last two games, Campo would become the fourth man since 1970 to lose at least 10 games in each of his first three seasons as head coach.

Updating previous reports, the Star Telegram reports Sunday’s embarrassing 37-7 loss to the New York Giants didn’t shed any positive light on Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo’s job security. Team owner/general manager Jerry Jones was visibly displeased that the team didn’t even have a chance to win on Sunday. The Cowboys are now guaranteed a losing season, and must win their final two games for Campo to avoid becoming the only coach in team history to lead a team to three straight seasons of 10 or more losses.

The Star-Telegram reports Dallas Cowboys coach Dave Campo had a conversation with rookie WR Antonio Bryant about Bryant's role in the offense. The two talked for about 30 minutes after practice on Monday. Bryant's season-long complaints about not being a big part of the offense and his frustrations over splitting time with veteran WR Darnay Scott have drawn the ire of offensive coordinator Bruce Coslet. "Antonio has a chance to be an outstanding receiver in this league," Campo said. "In some ways he is a little impatient. I like his impatience. But he can't let his impatience hurt him. There are things he thinks he can do to help the team. Sometimes he doesn't have that opportunity."
