Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports former NFL head coach Dan Reeves told WIVB-TV in Buffalo that he would be interested in joining the Buffalo Bills coaching staff because of his relationship with head coach Chan Gailey. "I tell you, if I could help Chan Gailey out, I would certainly be interested in that," Reeves said.

NCAA | Reeves serving as consultant for Georgia State

Bill Sanders, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports former NFL head coach Dan Reeves will serve as a consultant for Georgia State, who is trying to add a Division I-AA football program. Reeves is interested in every aspect of a possible program, including coaching the team. Reeves expects Georgia State to know exactly where it stands on financial support by the end of the year. Reeves said, "After the first six months, we should have a good idea of how serious the alumni, fans, supporters and businesses are. Are they willing to step up and be more than spectators in this?"

ESPN.com reports former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Reeves said he is treating the upcoming East-West Shrine Game as an audition, and he hopes it could lead to his return to the NFL. "At the time that I was fired in Atlanta, I needed a break," Reeves said. "Twenty-three straight years as a head coach is very difficult. But as soon as I got enough golf played and started doing all those 'honey-do's,' I knew I was ready to get back in it...It's still in my blood. I think I can still coach." Reeves, 63, hasn't been a head coach since 2003, when he was fired by the Falcons.

Texans | Casserly upset at reports he was fired

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports former Houston Texans general manager Charley Casserly was angered by reports that he had been fired. Both Casserly and team owner Bob McNair denied that he had been fired and Casserly said, "Yeah, I am upset about that. I'm glad that question was asked and Bob answered it. I have not been fired. There's absolutely no truth to it. I could have stayed on but chose not to." Casserly said the hiring of consultant Dan Reeves played no part in his decision.

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Dan Reeves could be the next head coach of the Houston Texans and Ron Hill could run their personnel department, probably as vice president of football operations. Reeves admitted Monday, Dec. 12, when owner Bob McNair hired him as a consultant to evaluate the team's talent that he's still interested in coaching if the right situation were available. Although McNair won't admit it publicly, when he shocked the NFL by hiring Reeves, he showed he has lost faith in general manager Charley Casserly. After the 2005 season, Casserly could follow head coach Dom Capers out the door.

Megan Manfull, of the Houston Chronicle, reports the Houston Texans made a personnel move Monday, Dec, 12, by hiring Dan Reeves to be a consultant to Texans' owner Bob McNair. Reeves will spend the next few weeks attending practices, watching film and talking with coaches, scouts and the general manager. Reeves will then offer suggestions to McNair on what the Texans should do in the offseason to turn around the franchise that is currently 1-12. "I've known Dan for a long time," McNair said. "We would like him to evaluate our team and give us his opinion as to how close we are to being a winning team. We have our thoughts as to what we need and we look forward to hearing Dan's independent evaluation and comments. He knows what it takes to get to the Super Bowl and that is our goal. I think that he can be a valuable resource for us as we go through this process."

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Houston Texans will announce they have hired longtime NFL head coach Dan Reeves as a consultant to owner Bob McNair. Reeves is not being hired to replace current head coach Dom Capers. The hiring gives McNair an independent, yet experienced, NFL mind to help with the team's problems. A team spokesman said Texans will announce the move at a 4:30 p.m. EST press conference.

Former Denver Broncos QB John Elway has reconciled with former head coach Dan Reeves, as Elway prepares for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, according to the Associated Press. Reeves coached the quarterback for 10 of his 16 NFL seasons, and Elway said he felt inhibited in his offensive system. Their relationship worsened in 1990, when Reeves attempted to trade him without telling him first. The healing process began when Elway invited his former coach to his Hall of Fame induction ceremony, to be held on Sunday, Aug. 8, and the thought of not inviting Reeves never crossed his mind.

AtlantaFalcons.com reports the Atlanta Falcons have released head coach Dan Reeves from his contract, effective immediately. Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, at Reeves' recommendation, was named interim head coach for the remaining three games of the season. "Yesterday, I advised Dan that we've decided to bring in a new head coach beginning in the 2004 season," Falcons owner & CEO Arthur M. Blank said. "Dan asked to be released from his position immediately and we agreed to do so, even though our desire was for him to stay on through the rest of the season." A new head coach will likely be named following the end of the regular season.

Updating previous reports, Matt Winkeljohn, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Atlanta Falcons RB Warrick Dunn (foot) suffered a sprained left foot in Sunday's, Nov. 23, game against the Tennessee Titans. X-rays were negative, but he is expected to undergo further testing on Monday, Nov. 24. "I don't know how serious that is," head coach Dan Reeves said. "It didn't look good because I think he had hurt it earlier in the game. He stayed out there and reinjured it."

ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports former CB Deion Sanders would like to return to the Atlanta Falcons, the team that drafted him in the first round in 1989, as their head coach next season. Speculation continues to swirl that current head coach Dan Reeves will be fired at the end of the year, and Sanders believes he has what it takes to turn the team around. "I can make them a better team, and I know that, because I know the things that really need to be done there," said Sanders, who retired as a player in the summer of '01. "I put so much time into preparing every week for my Sunday job [as a studio analyst on "The NFL Today" for CBS], watching tape and talking to players and coaches, that I still live football. It's still a big part of me. I talk to head coaches and assistants, guys with whom I'm close, every week. I know what the job involves, believe me, and I know I can do it."

"If we were accomplishing something out there [in practice], and actually we did [Tuesday] because we did some things differently defensively . . . but more than anything else, we need to get healthy."

In particular, LG Travis Claridge could be benched in favor of OG Roberto Garza, and, given the team's injury problems at linebacker, Reeves may consider the possibility of switching from a 3-4 defensive alignment to a 4-3.

Matt Winkeljohn, of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, reports Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Pete Mangurian will see an increased role in assembling the offensive game plan this season. Although Falcons head coach Dan Reeves will continue his play-calling role for the offense in 2003, he is gaining more trust in his coaching staff. ''Pete and I have been together for so long, and the more comfortable you are with somebody the more responsibility you give them,'' Reeves said. ''As far as the game plan, [assistants] put it together and present it to me. I'm always going to be involved in offense as long as I'm coaching . . . but you're influenced a great deal by your coaches, and I've got a good staff.''

Broncos | Spencer A Player-Coach?

The Denver Post reports the Denver Broncos could make CB Jimmy Spencer the first player-coach since Dan Reeves did it for the Dallas Cowboys in 1970 and 1971. Details are being finalized on a deal that would make Spencer the team’s new nickel backs coach. If he is able to gain a roster spot this summer, he would serve as a player-coach. If he does not earn a roster spot, he would then serve as a full-time coach.

Head coach Dan Reeves stated it was a good move because Johnson is a former college quarterback who also has experience coaching quarterbacks while with the San Diego Chargers from 2000 to 2001. According to Reeves, “Under Johnson’s guidance, (QB) Mike Vick will progress as a quarterback in the NFL.”

His play, torn abdominal muscle and scheduled salary of more than $4 million, might dictate his pending release, but Buchanan's salary is guaranteed in 2003, meaning, "He's definitely going to be a part of it," coach Dan Reeves said. Buchanan might be moved to free safety. "That's to be determined further down the road," defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said.

The AP reports that Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Reeves has yet to have his annual discussion with his wife Pam regarding when he should step down from coaching to spend more time at home. However, Reeves indicated he plans on returning to coach again next year. ''I fully plan on being back,'' said Reeves. ''Right after the season is a bad time to make a decision one way or another ... but as I said before, I signed a three-year contract before and I fully intend on honoring that contract.''
