San Diego Padres minor league SS Alvaro Aristy was suspended 50 games for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, according to Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Aristy was playing in the Dominican Summer League.

Padres.MLB.com's Corey Brock reports the San Diego Padres signed 16-year-old SS Alvaro Aristy (Dominican Republic), who according to ESPN.com, is the sixth-best Latino prospect, to an undisclosed deal. "We see Alvaro as the best pure shortstop in Latin America, both with his defensive ability along with his consistency at the plate," Padres director of international scouting Randy Smith said.

Barry Svrluga, of The Washington Post, reports the Washington Nationals hosted a workout for SS Alvaro Aristy Tuesday, March 25. Aristy, 16, who is from the Dominican Republic, is considered to be one of the top prospects available for this year's signing period. Aristy is also the only top international prospect to secure a visa to the United States so he can privately work out with major league teams.
