Former NFL RB Stephen Davis sued the National Football League next week over concussions sustained during his 11-year career. It is one of 102 lawsuits covering 2,653 former players. Davis, who retired in 2008, said he cannot remember how many concussions he sustained. He is having short-term memory loss just four years after retiring from the NFL, and he has even started taping conversations to retain basic details. "A lot of things scare me a whole lot, and it bothers me because there isn't no telling what day I'll forget everything," Davis said.

"Steven Jackson is our starter, and (Davis) gives us depth and has gotten to that part of his career where he can complement Steven." Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports if the Pittsburgh Steelers trade or release RB Duce Staley, one possible landing spot would seem to be the Philadelphia Eagles who, to date, have not had any trade conversations with the Steelers. Should Staley be released, and it is within the realm of possibility, the Eagles could be on the list of teams interested in his services. Reuben Frank, of phillyburbs.com, reports free agent RB Stephen Davis (Panthers) was a guest on the Brian Mitchell radio show on WTEM in Washington, D.C. Monday, Aug. 21, right after he visited with the Philadelphia Eagles. Speaking with his former Redskins' teammate, Davis said little about his visit with the Eagles and didn't sound like someone about to sign with a new team. Had Davis been encouraged by yesterday's visit with the Eagles, you would think he would have expressed that while speaking with Mitchell. An odd twist to this story involves Davis's revolving cast of agents. A few years back, Davis signed with agent David Canter. Early yesterday afternoon, Canter in a phone interview identified himself as Davis' agent but said he couldn't comment on talks with the Eagles because Davis wasn't yet finished with his workout. Later in the day, Canter said he was no longer Davis' agent. Davis reportedly is now represented by Christina Phillips.

Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports free agent RB Stephen Davis (Panthers) arrived in Philadelphia late Sunday night, Aug. 20, and will meet with Philadelphia Eagles officials today, a team source said. The Eagles interest in Davis is a little unexpected, in that he is 32 and didn't show much last season for the Carolina Panthers. While Davis is unlikely to reprise any of his four 1,000-yard seasons, he might be able to pitch in here and there. Still, the team source said the Eagles' interest in Davis is substantial.

Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox said he was impressed with the way RB DeShaun Foster's handled his first camp as the unquestioned starter at running back. "We were fortunate that we've had a lot of high-character guys," Fox said. "For (former Panthers RB) Stephen Davis to be the main guy, for a young player like DeShaun coming in, was a great role model for him as far as how to be a pro and how to conduct yourself, not just physically but mentally. This game is a lot mental. So he had a great teacher."
