The deal would have been worth about $300,000 for the remaining nine games of the season. The Redskins now seem content to stick with rookie QB Gibran Hamdan and the recently-acquired QB Tim Hasselbeck.

Wuerffel drew praise from head coach Steve Spurrier after the pre-season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars. "He had a lot of good plays," Spurrier said. "He had a few he could have thrown a little straighter, I thought, especially the one to Zeron [Flemister]. He just let that one get away from him. He's very capable of throwing the ball a lot better than that one."
