Free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Saints) is still an option for the New Orleans Saints this offseason, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower likely will have the same role he had in 2016 if he returns to the Saints. He posted 548 rushing yards and four touchdowns this past season. He can be considered a No. 4 fantasy running back if he signs with the Saints.
Wed, 22 Mar 2017 11:06:53 -0700
Free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Saints) is meeting with the Washington Redskins Wednesday, March 22, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower probably would be the backup to Rob Kelley if he decides to join the Redskins and likely would see limited touches. He probably would be a No. 4 or No. 5 running back in fantasy leagues if he signs with Washington.
Wed, 15 Mar 2017 19:28:24 -0700
Unrestricted free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Saints) is scheduled to meet with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, March 16, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower proved to be a serviceable back for the New Orleans Saints in his age-30 season in 2016, although he did more to anger Mark Ingram owners than he did on a consistent basis in fantasy. If he lands with the Niners, he would be the heavy favorite to be the direct backup to oft-injured Carlos Hyde.
Sat, 28 Jan 2017 12:52:51 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower will be an unrestricted free agent Thursday, March 9, at 4 p.m. EST.
Sun, 18 Dec 2016 21:58:47 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower rushed 11 times for 37 yards with two touchdowns in Week 15 against his former team, the Arizona Cardinals. He also added three receptions for 11 yards on his only three targets.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower is no longer the primary back with Mark Ingram over his fumbling problems and back to full health, too. Still, Hightower sees a handful of touches and is worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues heading into Week 16.
Sun, 11 Dec 2016 22:52:05 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower rushed six times for 31 yards in the Week 14 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he had one grab for eight yards on two targets.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower didn't do much, but he was slightly more effective than the nicked up Mark Ingram. Watch Ingram's status closely for Week 15. If he is unable to go, Hightower would be a solid RB2 in most fantasy leagues.
Sun, 27 Nov 2016 15:01:27 -0800
New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to RB Tim Hightower in a 49-21 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Fantasy Tip: Snead caught five passes for 38 yards, so if it hadn't been for that razzle-dazzle touchdown pass Snead would have had a bad day. Don't count on this play happening too much more, but Snead is ordinarily a decent threat for fantasy points. Snead is one of Drew Brees' many targets, so his numbers may go up and down.
Thu, 17 Nov 2016 21:12:33 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower finished with 12 carries for 69 yards and eight catches for 57 yards in a 23-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers Thursday, Nov. 17.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower had the backfield to himself after Mark Ingram left with a possible concussion. If Ingram is forced to miss more time, Hightower would immediately become a RB2 in all formats.
Sun, 06 Nov 2016 22:16:45 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower rushed 23 times for 87 yards with a touchdown in the Week 9 game against the San Francisco 49ers. He added one catch for 15 yards.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower was busy for a second straight game, as Mark Ingram was punished for a Week 8 fumble. However, Ingram bounced back in a big way and is likely to take back over as the primary ball carrier in Week 10 against the Denver Broncos despite Hightower's decent line. Hightower is still worth using as a flex fantasy option going forward.
Sat, 05 Nov 2016 18:53:28 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower said his biggest hurdle last year was being on the same page as QB Drew Brees in pass protection, but he added he is a lot more comfortable this year.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower has likely earned a bigger workload after topping 100 yards in Week 8, but it remains to be seen how he will be utilized. Still, he is worth a look as a flex option in Week 9 against San Francisco's porous run defense.
Sat, 05 Nov 2016 09:42:23 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower will be given a chance to stay heavily involved in the offense after erupting for 102 rushing yards against Seattle Seahawks in a Week 8 win, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.
Fantasy Tip: Triplett cautions Mark Ingram had done too much over the past three years to earn the trust of head coach Sean Payton to become a mere observer, so expect a bit of a timeshare for the foreseeable future. This week, both backs are legitimate RB2 options against the San Francisco 49ers' league-worst rush defense.
Mon, 31 Oct 2016 08:09:09 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower has earned more carries for the Week 9 game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to a source. The team plans to use a committee in the backfield.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower had 26 rushes for 102 yards in Week 8, and he'll be a flex consideration against the Niners.
Sun, 30 Oct 2016 17:42:08 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower took advantage of the benching of RB Mark Ingram in Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks, rushing 26 times for 102 yards. Ingram was punished for an early fumble and he never returned.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower is worth scooping up in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 9, as the Saints face the 49ers in Santa Clara. San Francisco has the worst rushing defense in the NFL.
Tue, 23 Aug 2016 19:52:31 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower is expected to serve as the team's primary backup to RB Mark Ingram, as none of the other reserve tailbacks have flashed or helped themselves in training camp and the preseason.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower made a miraculous comeback last season, returning to fantasy relevance. However as long as Ingram is healthy Hightower's workload will be rather minimal, and therefore so will his fantasy appeal.
Sun, 17 Jul 2016 17:13:12 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower is the best bet to serve as the primary backup for RB Mark Ingram, according to beat writer Nick Underhill.
Fantasy Tip: Given Ingram's injury issues, Hightower could easily end up starting a few games. Grab him in the later rounds, especially if you are an Ingram owner.
Thu, 16 Jun 2016 16:45:13 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram is the lead running back for the Saints, while RB Tim Hightower appears to be the backup, according to Larry Holder of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. RB C.J. Spiller holds the No. 3 spot.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower proved his worth later on last season in New Orleans when Ingram was sidelined. Ingram is still an RB1 when healthy, though. Spiller is a mid-round option in PPR leagues, while Hightower is a late-round handcuff consideration for Ingram in standard formats.
Fri, 08 Apr 2016 09:38:44 -0700
Free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Saints) has agreed to initial terms on a contract with the New Orleans Saints, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower enjoyed a renaissance late last season and could be in the late-RB3 mix.
Fri, 01 Apr 2016 08:32:43 -0700
Free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Saints) will meet with the New Orleans Saints this week.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower resurrected himself in the fantasy world the last few games of the season, and he's in the RB4 discussion.
Tue, 08 Mar 2016 07:58:23 -0800
New Orleans Saints impending free-agent RB Tim Hightower is negotiating a new deal with the Saints Tuesday, March 8.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower returned as the ghost of fantasy past with four really productive games to end the season. The Saints' backfield is a muddy situation with no clear-cut choice right now, and more will be known after the NFL Draft. For now, Hightower is in the low-end RB3 mix until someone emerges to change his stock.
Tue, 16 Feb 2016 09:53:44 -0800
The New Orleans Saints will not use their franchise tag this year. They don't have any premiere free agents that will require large deals. TE Benjamin Watson, RB Tim Hightower and S Rafael Bush may be priorities to re-sign. New Orleans may end up spending more to keep restricted free-agent RB Khiry Robinson and OG Tim Lelito.
Sun, 27 Dec 2015 18:38:15 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower had 27 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns and three catches for 47 yards in a 38-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower has performed well since taking over the starting gig, and he should be able to close the season on a high note against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17.
Mon, 21 Dec 2015 22:50:33 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower carried 13 times for 54 yards in the Week 15 game against the Detroit Lions Monday, Dec. 21. He also hauled in three receptions for 31 yards on four targets.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower is best used as a low-end RB2 or flex option in FantasyScore, as it appears he will continue to see the majority of the tailback touches down the stretch.
Sun, 13 Dec 2015 17:16:48 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower carried the ball 28 times for 85 yards and a touchdown and added one catch for 10 yards in a 24-17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14.
Fantasy Tip: It looks safe to say that Hightower is going to be the main beneficiary of Mark Ingram's season-ending injury. He could post another solid line against the Detroit Lions in Week 15.
Sun, 13 Dec 2015 08:02:25 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower is expected to receive the bulk of the carries for the team going forward, with RB Mark Ingram (shoulder) on injured reserve, because of their similar running styles. RB C.J. Spiller's role appears unlikely to change.
Fantasy Tip: The 29-year-old Hightower ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) was signed by the Saints last month and hadn't played in the NFL since 2011 prior to that. He has 12 carries for 48 yards and could be a solid pickup as a flex player for deeper fantasy leagues down the stretch.
Thu, 10 Dec 2015 09:12:54 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower could have a significant role in the backfield with RB Mark Ingram's (shoulder) season over. Head coach Sean Payton has praised Hightower for his ability and pass protection. "He's competitive, he's tough, he's been in that spotlight. And for him, it's the confidence that leg is a 100%," head coach Sean Payton said. "So I'm excited to see him play, just like I am with C.J."
Fantasy Tip: Hightower ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has 12 carries for 48 yards in four games with the Saints this year. There's a chance he could be the lead back with C.J. Spiller ($2,000) filling the third-down pass-catching role. Both could be valuable down the stretch in deeper leagues in a flex spot, depending on the matchup. Until we have a better idea how Payton will use them, though, they are long shots on FantasyScore.
Wed, 09 Dec 2015 11:35:05 -0800
New Orleans Saints RBs C.J. Spiller and Tim Hightower could be in line for more snaps if RB Mark Ingram (shoulder) is out for the season. Spiller is averaging just 13.5 snaps and 5.5 touches per game with the Saints this year for 108 rushing yards, 216 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Spiller has just four touches in the last two games.
Fantasy Tip: Spiller ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has become a fantasy afterthought with the Saints this year after being a popular sleeper pick in the preseason. He would still be worth adding if he's available, but Tim Hightower ($2,000) better fits the role Ingram would leave behind, especially in standard scoring leagues.
Mon, 02 Nov 2015 14:10:44 -0800
The New Orleans Saints re-signed RB Tim Hightower to an undisclosed deal Monday, Nov. 2, according to a source. Hightower hasn't played in a regular season game since 2011 due to injuries. RB Marcus Murphy could see more carries for the team after RB Khiry Robinson (leg) suffered a season-ending leg injury.
Fantasy Tip: Hightower will be nothing more than running back depth, at least initially, and he could be fourth on the depth chart behind Murphy. Leave him to the waiver wire for now.

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 16:29:11 -0800
Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Pierre Thomas' (Saints) release by the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, March 4, will save $1.735 million against the salary cap, and he carries an $830,000 "dead money" charge. Thomas would have counted $2.565 million against the salary cap this year. The Saints currently have three running backs on roster: RBs Khiry Robinson, Edwin Baker and Tim Hightower. RBs Travaris Cadet and Mark Ingram are both scheduled to be free agents.
Fantasy Tip: The release of PT cruiser isn't unexpected, since his role had quickly diminished over the last couple of seasons. If Ingram isn't re-signed, Robinson will have a clear path to the lead-back duties in New Orleans. And in an offense as potent as this, that'll make him very intriguing to fantasy football owners. Robinson could head into 2015 as a low-end RB1.

The Arizona Cardinals lost RB Ryan Williams (shoulder) to season-ending Injured Reserve, and there are rumors flying around about potential targets either through free agency or trade. One name that makes sense is New Orleans Saints RB Chris Ivory through trade, or former Cardinals RB and current free-agent Tim Hightower (Redskins). However, the latter is unlikely, as he is still not all the way back from a knee issue.
