Washington Redskins impending free-agent RB Tim Hightower (knee) said he expects to be ready for the start of the regular season but would not set a timetable for when he will be ready to practice. Hightower could be ready for the start of training camp because he has been rehabbing his torn anterior cruciate ligament for a while.

Washington Redskins RB Tim Hightower said Monday, Jan. 2, that he wants to return. However, it is likely he will need to re-sign a one-year deal since he is coming off an injury. "It's very important, very important (to return)," Hightower said. "I love this organization. Coming back here I didn't realize how much it would mean to me coming back, being around your family and going places with the fans. It was special for me. This is somewhere I would like to play for a long time."

Washington Redskins RB Tim Hightower (knee) said Tuesday, Nov. 1, that he is confident he'll be back in 2012. Hightower is still doing charity work, even as he is on Injured Reserve, and said it is important to attend events and encourage students to live healthy lives. "A huge part of my rehab being a success is doing stuff like this to keep my spirits up. I know everything will work for the good," Hightower said. "So what, I'm hurt. You never know what a kid's going through, so I wanted to still do whatever I can to encourage them." He is confident he'll be able to return in 2012.

Updating previous reports, Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said RB Tim Hightower (knee) will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Shanahan's revolving door of running backs and the fantasy uncertainty that it caused on a weekly basis will now be toned down to just Ryan Torain and Roy Helu Jr. Torain, who was a huge disappointment in Week 7 with just two carries, fits the system the best, but Helu is a must own given Shanahan's lack of loyalty in a featured back. A straight split in carries is a very real possibility. Evan Royster could further complicate the situation if he's elevated from the practice squad.

However, X-rays taken Sunday, Oct. 23, after the game were negative, a league source said.
