The Washington Post reports Washington Redskins C Mark Fischer tore his anterior cruciate ligament during Wednesday's practice and will undergo season-ending knee surgery. Cory Raymer is the starting center and he will be backed up by rookie OL David Brandt. The Redskins could be without two rookie defensive starters Sunday, CB Fred Smoot (knee) and LB Antonio Pierce (groin). Pierce would be replaced by Robert Jones and Smoot would once again be replaced by CB Darrell Green.

The Washington Post reports Washington Redskins G David Brandt (sprained right knee) is doing better, but he missed practice on Wednesday. Matt Campbell took the snaps with the first team and he will most likely start if Brandt can't go. Backup MLB Robert Jones (sprained knee) is also questionable. S Sam Shade (bruised quadriceps) was able to practice on Wednesday and he is expected to play on Sunday. TE Stephen Alexander has an avulsion fracture (bone chip) in the middle finger of his right hand but said it shouldn't limit his play.

The Washington Post reports head coach Marty Schottenheimer has not ruled out OL David Brandt to start for Sunday’s game against Arizona, but Brandt’s knee was heavily damaged and he had trouble simply walking to his car. Schottenheimer said if Brandt can’t go, he will look to start backup OL Matt Campbell.

The Washington Times reports rookie right guard David Brandt had a disappointing debut with two penalties called against him and an injured right MCL. Veteran Ben Coleman replaced Brandt and seemed solid while filling in. Coleman couldn't say when he will return to full strength but indicated that he expects to have the starting job when he does.

The Washington Times reports when the Washington Redskins announce their starting lineup later today, rookie CB Fred Smoot will be announced as a starting cornerback joining Champ Bailey. He edged out veteran Darrell Green to win the job. By showing that he will not make too many mistakes in the short-term, Smoot gave the team confidence to allow him to begin reaching his sizable potential. Other apparent victors in competitions for starting jobs are undrafted rookie RG David Brandt, MLB Kevin Mitchell and FS David Terrell.

According to the Washington Post, the Washington Redskins projected starting offensive line of tackles Chris Samuels and Jon Jansen, C Cory Raymer and guards Matt Campbell and Ben Coleman has been decimated by injuries. For now, Campbell is scheduled to start at left tackle for Samuels (pulled side muscle), David Brandt is scheduled to start at right guard for Coleman (knee) and Dave Szott is scheduled to start at left guard.
