White Sox | Jake Peavy could have personal catcher

Wed, 14 Mar 2012 11:34:06 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Jake Peavy could be using C Tyler Flowers as his personal catcher this year after the two developed a relationship when Flowers caught Peavy's rehab assignments in the minors last year. Manager Robin Ventura isn't ready to proclaim Flowers as Peavy's personal catcher, though. Peavy clashed with C A.J. Pierzynski on the field and off during a start June 23 last season. "From my perspective, it's like hitting: You see the ball better from certain pitchers," Flowers said. "He's one of those guys (where) I recognize the pitches out of his hand. I can kind of tell if it's going to be in the dirt and block it or if it's going to be a strike or borderline. That gives me comfort."

White Sox | Tyler Flowers likely headed to Triple-A

Fri, 18 Mar 2011 20:38:47 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Tyler Flowers is batting .438 this spring, and he has been much better defensively, too, reports Daryl Van Schouwen, of the Chicago Sun-Times. However, due to the presence of C A.J. Pierzynski, Flowers is likely ticketed for Triple-A Charlotte. "It's a business, I guess," Flowers said. "It's unfortunate that it's probably not going to happen. At the same time, it's an opportunity in Triple-A to continue to progress and hopefully get an opportunity down the road. It motivates you that much more."
