Phillies | Peter Bourjos goes to disabled list

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 18:12:42 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Peter Bourjos (shoulder) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder sprain.

Fantasy Tip: At this point in his career, Bourjos is more of a defensive specialist than anything else. Even when he gets back, he may struggle to find playing time with Aaron Altherr returning from injury. As a result, Bourjos will find himself on the bench more often than not when he's healthy again.

Phillies | Peter Bourjos likely to DL

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 10:28:56 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Peter Bourjos (shoulder) is likely headed to the disabled list due to his right shoulder injury Thursday, July 28. OF Aaron Altherr (wrist) is expected to be activated Thursday after completing a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Altherr is hitting .351 with a homer, five RBI and two steals in 37 at-bats in the minors. He's an attractive pickup in NL-only leagues because he figures to play a lot the rest of the way. As for Bourjos, the team was hoping to trade him to make room for Altherr. Either way, his playing time is likely to heavily decline the rest of the way. He can be dropped if you need the space in NL-only leagues.

Phillies | Three Phils out Wednesday

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 06:52:42 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Cody Asche, SS Freddy Galvis and OF Peter Bourjos (shoulder) are out of the lineup Wednesday, July 27. OF Tyler Goeddel, 2B Taylor Featherston and OF Jimmy Paredes are hitting sixth, seventh and eighth.

Fantasy Tip: You're really trying to catch lightning in a bottle if you're looking for a basement play here. Paredes has the most upside because of his work in Baltimore last year. However, he has a .207-2-8 line in 82 at-bats. He faces lefty Adam Conley today and is the only of the three to have some fantasy merit.

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 17:14:25 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Peter Bourjos (undisclosed) left the game early Tuesday, July 26, because of an undisclosed injury.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to look for an update on Bourjos' status after the game or in the next day. Bourjos has value in NL-only leagues but probably should be avoided in mixed leagues.

Phillies | Odubel Herrera sitting vs. the Fish

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 12:05:29 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Odubel Herrera is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. OF Tyler Goeddel is starting in left field and batting second against Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen Wednesday. Phillies OF Peter Bourjos also climbs into the leadoff spot with Herrera out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera has emerged as a solid fantasy option in all formats this season with 51 runs, 10 home runs, 33 RBI, 12 stolen bases and a .285/.369/.416 slash line. Goeddel is a desperation option in all fantasy settings given his .573 OPS for the season, but Bourjos could be a potential flier in daily contests Wednesday. Bourjos has an active 40-for-117 (.342 batting average) stretch at the plate since Wednesday, June 1.

Phillies | Two Phillies to soon patrol outfield

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 08:34:07 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Aaron Altherr (wrist) and OF Nick Williams are expected to be called up in the next few weeks. Altherr has a couple of weeks left on a rehab assignment, and Williams has hit safely in 26 of 28 games at Class AAA Lehigh Valley. OF Peter Bourjos and OF Cody Asche have the potential to lose their spots.

Fantasy Tip: Altherr had a .232-5-22 line with six steals in 142 at-bats last season, but he's coming off of wrist surgery. Williams has a .289-8-44 line at Triple-A. Neither are projected to make huge impacts, but both are NL-only depth options if you're looking ahead for potential callups.

Phillies | Peter Bourjos batting second vs. Mets

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 12:36:12 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Peter Bourjos is batting second against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon Friday, July 15. Philadelphia SS Freddy Galvis is batting seventh Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Galvis has been hitting in the two-hole most nights, so moving down the lineup is a hit to his already limited fantasy value. Bourjos is nothing more than a depth option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, but he could be worth a contrarian flier in daily contests because he's batting second Friday.
