Phillies | Darin Ruf to play throughout weekend

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 15:13:47 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Darin Ruf is expected to play in all three games this weekend against Milwaukee Brewers' right-handed pitchers while OF Peter Bourjos tinkers with his swing.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf will face Zach Davies Friday night, then Chase Anderson and Wily Peralta to finish off the three-game series. Those three arms aren't exactly lighting the world on fire, so as long as Ruf starts in all three contests, he has some intriguing sleeper potential in daily formats.

Phillies | Peter Bourjos sitting out

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 13:31:23 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Peter Bourjos is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 22. OF Darin Ruf is starting in left field and hitting seventh against Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies, while OF David Lough shifts over to right field.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf has dealt with a nagging injury this year and only has 18 at-bats (two hits) this year. Davies isn't an overpowering pitcher, and Ruf could do damage, but he's a risky deep sleeper in daily formats tonight.

Phillies | Peter Bourjos, Cesar Hernandez sitting

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 11:26:21 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Peter Bourjos and 2B Cesar Hernandez are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 19. OF Tyler Goeddel is starting in left field and batting eighth, while SS Andres Blanco is at the keystone and is hitting third against New York Mets SP Logan Verrett.

Fantasy Tip: The Phils avoided having to face Jacob deGrom tonight, but Verrett is no slouch after throwing six shutout innings in deGrom's turn last week. Goeddel and Blanco are both desperation daily picks if you're looking to save salary cap space. Blanco is slightly more attractive hitting in the middle of the order.

Phillies | Peter Bourjos, Tyler Goeddel starting

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:57:22 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OFs Peter Bourjos and Tyler Goeddel are playing right field and left field, respectively, against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Bourjos and Goeddel are a combined 6-for-43 at the plate this year with one RBI and should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Phillies | Peter Bourjos out Friday

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 08:57:49 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Peter Bourjos is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 8. OF Cedric Hunter moves over to right field and is hitting sixth, while 2B Emmanuel Burriss is starting in left field and hitting eighth against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom.

Fantasy Tip: Hunter hit his first homer of the season yesterday and is the more attractive deep sleeper for daily games, but neither he nor Burriss are attractive Friday afternoon against deGrom.

Phillies | Peter Bourjos to play LF and RF

Sat, 27 Feb 2016 12:44:18 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies OF Peter Bourjos is expected to get most of his playing time at the corner outfield positions, along with OF Aaron Altherr, according to manager Pete Mackanin. OF Odubel Herrera appears firmly entrenched as the team's regular center fielder.

Fantasy Tip: From 2006 to 2013, Bourjos had five appearances in left field and one appearance in right field in the minors, with no games at either position in the majors. At best, he is nothing more than a late-round flier in NL-only fantasy formats.

Mariners | Seattle wants athletic OF

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:13:33 -0800

The Seattle Mariners may be inclined to trade for the likes of New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner, St. Louis Cardinals OFs Jon Jay or Peter Bourjos, Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin or Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. rather than sign impending free-agent OFs Dexter Fowler (Cubs), Austin Jackson (Cubs) or Denard Span (Nationals).

Fantasy Tip: Gardner is likely Seattle's top trade target and is the biggest fantasy name of the bunch. A move to pitcher-friendly Safeco Field would turn many off to Gardner, but that could make him a better value pick in 2016 fantasy drafts for his speed.

Cardinals | Stephen Piscotty injured in collision

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 21:11:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Stephen Piscotty (head) suffered a head contusion in a violent collision with OF Peter Bourjos in the game Monday, Sept. 28, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was transported to a local Pittsburgh hospital for further evaluation.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Piscotty ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) will be well enough to play again. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later for the rookie, who waved to the crowd while being carted off.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk sitting vs. Reds

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 14:37:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk (elbow) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 10, because it is a scheduled "off day" from throwing, according to his rehab schedule. OF Peter Bourjos is starting in center field and batting eighth against Cincinnati Reds SP John Lamb Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk's ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) throwing was visibly limited Wednesday, Sept. 9, which makes him an extreme defensive liability in the outfield for St. Louis. Don't be surprised if he receives plenty of rest down the stretch with the Cardinals all but locked into a playoff berth. It is a tough spot for seasonal owners, but unless you have the flexibility to pick your spots with the outfielder, you might be able to find better and more consistent production elsewhere. Bourjos ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation flier for FantasyScore contests Thursday.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds remains out

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 14:32:50 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 4. OF Peter Bourjos draws into the lineup and is batting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP J.A. Happ Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is missing his second consecutive game with the injury, so you'll want to check back for updates before returning him to your lineups. He is having a respectable second half as a part-time player with a .274/.364/.453 slash line. Bourjos ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) owns a .644 OPS over the past two seasons, and he can't be started with confidence at FantasyScore Friday.
