Pirates | James McDonald to DL

Tue, 07 May 2013 13:56:14 -0700

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed SP James McDonald (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list with pain in his right shoulder Tuesday, May 7. The DL stint is retroactive to May 1. 3B Josh Harrison has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill the empty spot on the roster. SP Jeanmar Gomez will make the start against the Seattle Mariners Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: McDonald has been terribly inconsistent this year and can be safely dropped in most mixed universes. Gomez entered the rotation when Pittsburgh cut bait on Jonathan Sanchez. Consider Gomez in NL-only formats.

McDonald's fastball normally is in the 93-94 mph range, but only one of his 46 pitches was over 92 mph Monday night. He was 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA against the Cardinals coming into the outing. McDonald allowed a total of eight hits and eight runs (three earned) while walking two in just 1 2/3 innings.
