Fantasy Tip: McDonald has been terribly inconsistent this year and can be safely dropped in most mixed universes. Gomez entered the rotation when Pittsburgh cut bait on Jonathan Sanchez. Consider Gomez in NL-only formats.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 10:42:50 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates SP James McDonald was bounced out of his outing in the second inning after allowing seven runs in the inning to the St. Louis Cardinals Monday, April 15. McDonald's fastball normally is in the 93-94 mph range, but only one of his 46 pitches was over 92 mph Monday night. He was 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA against the Cardinals coming into the outing. "He just couldn't get the ball where he wanted it, couldn't repeat it and it was hard," manager Clint Hurdle said. "Too many pitches up and over the plate to a good-hitting team." McDonald allowed a total of eight hits and eight runs (three earned) while walking two in just 1 2/3 innings.
