Giants | Arrington compares players union to organized crime

Wed, 06 Dec 2006 22:25:33 -0800

The Associated Press reports New York Giants LB LaVar Arrington equated the players union with organized crime Wednesday, Dec. 6, a day before he was scheduled to testify before Congress at a hearing for his former agent, Carl Poston. Poston was suspended by the NFLPA for his handling of the contract Arrington signed with the Washington Redskins near the end of the 2003 season. Arrington believes the union acted unfairly by suspending Poston. "They suspended him without a hearing, the NFLPA. If you are educated and you pay attention to what is going on around you, they do a lot of foul stuff. It's like organized crime, to be honest with you. They are bad," Arrington said. Union head Gene Upshaw believes he is protecting not only Arrington, but other players by suspending Poston. "When we got into this, we did it to protect LaVar. I couldn't care less about Poston. I felt we'll take care of him [Poston] later, and we did."
