Oakland Raiders RB Michael Bush (thumb) handled the majority of repetitions in practice Thursday, Oct. 7, and is likely to start in Week 5 against the San Diego Chargers, according to The Associated Press. Bush has just 10 carries this season. "If you look at when Mike's played, it's been the same things," head coach Tom Cable said. "He runs more physical in the box maybe. You may not get as much play on the perimeter but you'll get it running downhill at the defense. (McFadden) has been very productive so we've got to find a way to get that same production but I think Michael's ready to take that load." RB Rock Cartwright will be the backup to Bush if RBs Darren McFadden (hamstring) and Michael Bennett (hamstring) are ruled out.

Cartwright had 67 yards on 13 carries against the Dallas Cowboys Week 11, but he has been outgained by RB Quinton Ganther the past two weeks. Cartwright said, "But when you run the ball in spurts - two carries here, three carries there - you can't get hot. You guys can see it. The Dallas game, I got into a rhythm, and we started moving the ball." He had five carries for 20 yards early in the first quarter Week 13, but he didn't get another carry until the third quarter. Cartwright said, 'I get a couple carries early and then not another one until the second half - what do they expect? That's crazy. But I don't control it, I'm not worried about it and all I can do is go out and play special teams."
Tue, 08 Dec 2009 11:59:58 -0800
Jason Reid, of The Washington Post, reports the Washington Redskins' running-back-by-committee between RBs Rock Cartwright, Quinton Ganther and Marcus Mason will continue after an impressive performance in Week 13. "I like the way all the running backs are giving effort," head coach Jim Zorn said. "It's one of those deals where, by committee, we're doing a pretty good job. I think each guy in his own right is going as hard as he can. I think we're getting better as we go down here. The guys are feeling more and more comfortable getting themselves up the field." Ganther has previously worked with offensive coordinator Sherman Smith when Smith was the running backs coach with the Tennessee Titans. "He hasn't surprised Sherman because Sherman has known about him," Zorn said. "It's good for our team that we've got guys, even Marcus Mason, with his ability to run as well. All three of those guys are coming on strong."

Pam Oliver, of FOX Sports, reports Washington Redskins RB Ladell Betts (knee) injured his knee and was helped off the field in the first quarter. He is not expected to return to action. Rock Cartwright replaced Betts.
Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on this situation heading into next week, and pick up Cartwright if your team is thin at the position and your league allows you to make transactions during games.
Sun, 15 Nov 2009 09:19:24 -0800
The NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports Washington Redskins RB Ladell Betts (ankle) will start in Week 10 in place of RB Clinton Portis (concussion), but Betts still isn't 100 percent. The Redskins may rotate other backs with Betts to keep him fresh. Head coach Jim Zorn said Friday, Nov. 13, RBs Rock Cartwright and Quinton Ganther could be used in a committee approach this week against the Denver Broncos.
Fantasy Tip: The reality is that the Redskins will use Betts as much as they can. Cartwright might serve as the goal line back and vulture an opportunity or two, but neither of the backups is a fantasy play or serves as reason to bench Betts. Betts is a solid flex play this week, at least in PPR leagues.
