New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) said he expects to be ready for spring training next year after having surgery on a herniated disc in his neck. The doctor who performed his surgery is calling the procedure similar to the one Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning underwent. "The chances are pretty good. I don't know the numbers or anything, but everyone has assured me that I will (be ready for spring training)," Parnell said. "All the discomfort that I had from the pinched nerve is gone, basically. It's just soreness from the surgery now. I feel very confident that everything is going to get back to normal." The disc from his neck was removed and was replaced with a bone graft from Parnell's hip. He will have to refrain from activities for the next four to six weeks.

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) is expected to be ready for the start of spring training next year after he undergoes surgery to fix a herniated disc in his neck Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Fantasy Tip: If Parnell is healthy entering the regular season in 2014, he should be considered the favorite to close out games in the ninth inning for the Mets once again.

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) will need surgery to fix a herniated disc in his neck, according to a baseball source. Parnell went 5-5 with a 2.16 ERA and had 22 saves in 26 chances this season.
Fantasy Tip: It was unlikely that Parnell was going to be able to return this season before the surgery news. You can now safely drop him if you were holding out hope for a return. LaTroy Hawkins should continue to pitch in save situations.

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) is wary of undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck. Parnell visited with a doctor Monday, Aug. 26, for a follow up, which revealed the neck is improving, but possibly not enough to avoid surgery. Parnell will visit with a doctor again in two weeks, when a final decision on surgery is made.

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) will visit with doctors next week, and surgery remains an option. If he undergoes a procedure, he'll be out for four or five months.
Fantasy Tip: It's becoming more likely that Parnell doesn't return to pitch this season. Continue to keep him stashed. LaTroy Hawkins remains the best source of saves with Parnell out. He should be owned in all formats.

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) continues to get treatment in New York for his herniated disc in his neck. It's unknown if Parnell will need surgery to fix the injury.
Fantasy Tip: You'll have to hang onto Parnell until we know more on whether he'll need surgery. If he does, you'll be free to drop him and pursue other pitching talents. With Parnell out, LaTroy Hawkins is the favorite to see the majority of save opps from here on out.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins turned to RP LaTroy Hawkins for the save situation Tuesday, Aug. 6, against the Colorado Rockies with RP Bobby Parnell (neck) sidelined. Hawkins got into a bit of a jam after retiring the first two batters, but 1B Ike Davis made a diving stab on a liner with two outs to end the threat.
Fantasy Tip: Hawkins and David Aardsma are each likely to see save opportunities, and Scott Rice could factor in as well. Closer-by-committee situations are frustration for fantasy owners, and it's best to shy away until someone steps to the forefront.

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) may need to undergo surgery if the epidural injection he received Monday, Aug. 5, does not work.
Fantasy Tip: Surgery would almost assuredly keep Parnell from returning again this year. That would make David Aardsma, LaTroy Hawkins, Scott Rice or whoever else takes advantage of his absence more valuable in deeper leagues. This could be a very frustrating closer-by-committee situation for fantasy owners, though.
