Mets | Bobby Parnell to resume throwing

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 15:13:05 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is scheduled to resume throwing on flat ground Thursday, April 30. He's working his way back from Tommy John surgery last April, and his exam with Dr. David Altchek didn't show any structural damage. Parnell thinks throwing over the winter led to arm fatigue early this year. His fastball velocity has been clocked as low as 89 mph in his last rehab start, but he's confident his velocity will quickly return to the mid-90s when he's fully healthy. Parnell said he was throwing 94-95 mph in his previous rehab start.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell should continue to be stashed in a DL slot in all universes. However, Jeurys Familia has been lights out in his absence in the ninth inning, and it may not be easy for Parnell to regain the role when he's healthy.

Mets | Bobby Parnell's rehab on hold

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:43:27 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell's (elbow, forearm) rehab assignment has been put on hold for a week while he deals with forearm soreness, according to manager Terry Collins. Parnell was examined by Dr. David Altchek, but nothing alarming was found. His fastball velocity has been in the 89-92 mph range during his rehab outings as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: In Parnell's absence, Jeurys Familia is a perfect 8-for-8 in save chances, and is making a case for himself to remain as the ninth-inning stopper, even when Parnell returns. You'll want to continue stashing Parnell in a DL slot in all leagues, though.

Mets | Bobby Parnell roughed up in rehab

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 15:28:35 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) was roughed up in a rehab appearance for Class-A Advanced St. Lucie, Tuesday, April 21. Parnell allowed one run off of two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Parnell recorded just a single strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell was working on getting a velocity reading and was mostly in the 89-92 miles per hour range, while occasionally touching 93 mph. With Parnell likely requiring a lengthy rehab stint in the minors, RP Jeurys Familia remains the top Mets' reliever to own. Familia has six saves in eight relief appearances to open the season, while striking out over 10 and a half batters per nine innings pitched.

Mets | Bobby Parnell throws rehab inning

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 09:36:57 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) pitched one inning for High-A St. Lucie Thursday, April 16. He allowed two runs and two hits without a strikeout. His fastball was between 89-93 mph in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell will likely need more time on the farm before returning. He could figure into the closing mix soon after he returns, but Jeurys Familia has converted four saves this week. Stash Parnell in deep leagues.

Mets | Bobby Parnell begins rehab stint

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 18:55:28 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) began a minor-league rehab assignment with Class A Advanced St. Lucie Tuesday, April 14. He was scheduled to pitch one inning, his first game action since opening day 2014 when he suffered a partially-torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, necessitating Tommy John surgery. Manager Terry Collins said he wants to see Parnell pitch in back-to-back games, preferably more than once, before activating him from the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell might be back sometime before mid-May on this timetable, and when he does get back he will compete with Jeurys Familia for save chances.

Mets | Bobby Parnell set for rehab assignment

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 10:55:00 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is set to start a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie in the next day or two, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Parnell should be activated from the disabled list no later than May 1 after returning from Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Things have really changed in New York now that Jenrry Mejia has been suspended 80 games for performance-enhancing substances. Parnell should be owned in all leagues and stashed in a DL spot. He's expected to be given every shot to earn the closer's job back from Jeurys Familia when he's ready.

Mets | Bobby Parnell won't be rushed back

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 16:37:39 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) will not be rushed back, according to general manager Sandy Alderson.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell should be stashed in a DL spot until he's ready to return, and he's expected to jump right back into the closing role. Making things more interesting is the fact that Jenrry Mejia (elbow) didn't pitch in the ninth on opening day due to elbow stiffness. Mejia owners or those looking for saves should immediately run to the waiver wire and grab Jeurys Familia.

Mets | Bobby Parnell pitches Wednesday

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 12:29:12 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) pitched in a minor league game Wednesday, April 1, and allowed two doubles and a home run during his one inning of work. Parnell's velocity was at 88 to 89 mph against the first batter but went up to 93 to 94 mph later in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell is expected to miss at least the first month of the season as he works his way back from elbow surgery. Owners could consider selecting Parnell in the later rounds of drafts and stashing him on the disabled list until he is able to return. Jennry Mejia is expected to open the season as the closer and could also be a later-round option.

Mets | Bobby Parnell could return in May

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:56:41 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is unlikely to return in April, and he's hoping to be back sometime in May, although he's not setting that in stone.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets have said that Parnell is expected to be handed the closer's role back when he's ready to return, so that makes him worth drafting with a late-round pick and stashing in a DL spot. Jenrry Mejia is the favorite to see most of the save chances until then, and he's also a late-round closer option, preferably handcuffed with Parnell.
