Mets | Bobby Parnell won't work in ninth

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 18:37:56 -0700

The New York Mets activated RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) from the disabled list Tuesday, Sept. 1. He allowed two walks while committing a throwing error, and he was showered with boos upon departing.

Fantasy Tip: Mets fans are not pleased with Parnell, but he is working back from major injury. He will not work in high leverage situations, so avoid him even in standard fantasy formats until he builds up his stamina.

Mets | Bobby Parnell charged with the loss

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 17:34:41 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell was charged with the loss Wednesday, July 22, in Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell allowed three earned runs in the top of the ninth and blew the save. Manager Terry Collins blamed himself for not getting closer Jeurys Familia into the game.

Mets | Jeurys Familia out for weekend

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 14:51:55 -0700

New York Mets RP Jeurys Familia (groin) will miss the rest of the weekend after a left groin issue surfaced on his final two pitches in the eighth inning Friday, June 19. He tested it Saturday, June 20, and has been prescribed anti-inflammatory medication but has not undergone an MRI. Familia does not believe he will land on the disabled list. RP Bobby Parnell will likely fill in at closer in the interim.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell should be picked up if you're save speculating. There's even a small chance he retains the role. However, his lengthy injury history doesn't give that theory much weight.

Mets | Bobby Parnell could close temporarily

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 13:17:10 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell could close games temporarily with RP Jeurys Familia expected to go on the paternity list soon.

Fantasy Tip: Don't go blowing all of your FAAB money on Parnell if you're looking for saves. Familia has done nothing to lose the ninth-inning duties and will return to the role all by himself after his child is born. However, if you're desperate for saves, Parnell could be worth the very temporary pickup, just don't spend much at all.

Mets | Bobby Parnell returns to majors

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 15:53:13 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) was activated from the disabled list Thursday, June 11. Manager Terry Collins said Parnell's fastball sat at roughly 92 mph during his minor league rehab stint, down over three miles per hour from his major league career average. Over 14 innings between Class A and Class AA, Parnell allowed 22 hits and 14 walks, while hitting one batter and throwing three wild pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell was expected to regain the closer's role upon his return to the majors, but his minor league struggles and Jeurys Familia's dominance in the role, will make it tough for Parnell to reclaim his former title. Parnell will be worth monitoring, but he's not a concern for owners in standard leagues at this point.

Mets | Bobby Parnell activated

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 09:54:25 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) was activated from the disabled list Thursday, June 11. In a corresponding move, P Dillon Gee was placed on the bereavement list after the death of his grandmother.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell has virtually no chance of taking the closing role from Jeurys Familia, at least not anytime soon. Expect Parnell to be eased back in, perhaps in low-leverage situations as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery. Because he won't have an avenue to saves in the foreseeable future, Parnell carries virtually zero fantasy value.

Mets | Bobby Parnell close to returning

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 19:20:09 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is expected to be activated from the disabled list once his 30-day rehab clock expires, even though he has posted an ERA of 11.57 during his rehab assignment and shown decreased velocity on his fastball.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Parnell to be utilized in low-leverage situations until he demonstrates that he can effectively get batters out. It is safe to say that Jeurys Familia does not have to worry about losing his closer's job anytime in the near future.

Mets | Bobby Parnell making final rehab start

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 15:22:25 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is pitching in what is expected to be his last rehab outing in the minors Tuesday, June 9.

Fantasy Tip: It's highly unlikely that Parnell is in consideration to challenge Jeurys Familia for the closer duties when he's back with the Mets. Familia has been lights out as the team's closer all season long and hasn't looked back at all. Parnell is only worth stashing in the deepest of NL-only leagues once he's back.

Mets | Bobby Parnell throwing well

Fri, 29 May 2015 15:53:37 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) was throwing 94 to 95 mph in his last rehab outing with Class AA Binghamton, according to manager Terry Collins. Parnell still has not pitched in back-to-back games, so he is not ready to be activated from the 15-day disabled list yet.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell is working his way back from his elbow injury, but it is not known what his role will be once he is activated from the disabled list. Jeurys Familia has done well as the team's closer, so Parnell could be used in earlier innings. Owners could hold on to Parnell, but his value would take a hit if he is not the closer.

Mets | Bobby Parnell not worrying GM

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:59:38 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell's decreased velocity in the minor leagues has not been worrying general manager Sandy Alderson. Parnell allowed three runs (two earned) off four hits over one and a third innings Tuesday, May 19, in an extended spring training game. Parnell regularly threw 90-92 mph and occasionally went higher, according to Alderson. Manager Terry Collins said Parnell is also having some control issues.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell has seemed like a lock to step right back into the closer role upon his return, but the play of fill-in closer Jeurys Familia has likely changed that plan. Familia blew his first save of the season Monday, May 18, but he should retain a firm grip on the job for the foreseeable future.
