Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears informed FB Bryan Johnson (hamstring) that he would be waived from injured reserve and the oft-injured fullback filed an injury grievance against the club. Johnson, who is still listed on the club's roster, was informed prior to Week 2 that he would be released. The club tried to get Johnson to agree to an injury settlement when they placed him on IR on Aug. 28, an effort to pay him less than the $625,000 he is under contract for in 2006.

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears offered FB Bryan Johnson (hamstring) an injury settlement. He refused it and instead was placed on the season-ending Injured Reserve list. He had surgery on his right hamstring a week ago, a relatively new procedure designed to help him heal quicker, and the original word he got was that he would be back on the field next month. Johnson's agent, Derrick Fox, was surprised Monday morning, Aug. 28, when the Bears called and asked him to accept the injury settlement, meaning Johnson would receive less than the $625,000 he is under contract for this season. ''I wasn't going to accept a settlement,'' Fox said. ''Based on what? This is a new surgery, and we don't know exactly how it is going to heal. Why would I settle for less? I told the Bears I don't know how it's going to heal up, and neither do they. I would have never known about these people Bryan went to see if it weren't for the Bears. Now they want him to take a settlement?''

Johnson should be ready to go by training camp, but that's the same line that was delivered at this time last season. Johnson had surgery in December 2004 to repair a ligament problem in his right foot, and then had a procedure last summer to clear it up. Last season, he suffered a stress fracture in the foot and spent six weeks in a walking boot starting in mid-February. ''He's very confident that come July he will be ready to go in training camp,'' said Derrick Fox, Johnson's agent. ''He's healthy right now and is doing all of the lifting. He's just taking a precaution with the foot.'' Fox said a recent CAT scan revealed the crack had sealed completely.
