Matt Borland, the vice president of competition, will become Newman's crew chief in the No. 39 Chevy starting next weekend at Martinsville.

The team is also working on a sponsorship deal Bass Pro Shops to replace some of the 22 races left open for driver Tony Stewart after Office Depot leaves this season. Newman could also have a new crew chief next year, with crew chief Tony Gibson and the No. 39 crew moving to help out with driver Danica Patrick in her first full-time ride in the Cup Series.
