Former Roush Fenway Racing crew chief Greg Erwin, the crew chief for driver Greg Biffle, will join Richard Petty Motorsports and driver A.J. Allmendinger, effective immediately. Mike Shiplett has been working as Allmendinger's crew chief.

Lee Spencer, of FOXSports.com, reports Richard Petty Motorsports drivers Reed Sorenson and A.J. Allmendinger will remain with their respective car numbers and sponsors. However, crew chief Mike Shiplett will now oversee the No. 44 Dodge with Allmendinger and crew chief Sammy Johns will be the crew chief for Sorenson and the No. 43 team.

Bob Pockrass, of SceneDaily.com, reports Robbie Loomis will be the executive director of racing operations for the new team that will merge between Gillett Evernham Motorsports and Petty Enterprises. Kevin Buskirk and Sammy Johns will join the existing GEM crew chiefs Kenny Francis and Mike Shiplett.

Terry Blount, of ESPN.com, reports free-agent driver Patrick Carpentier (Gillett Evernham Motorsports) said he was involved in an argument with team director Mike Shiplett, who blamed him for failing to qualify at Talladega Superspeedway, according to Carpentier's web site, patcarpentier.ca. The team released him Tuesday, Oct. 7. "I know [Shiplett's] criticism didn't make any sense," Carpentier wrote. "What is worst is that he seems to have forgotten pretty quickly races like Dover or in Atlanta where I've qualified a car that he himself didn't think was fast enough to earn a place on the starting grid. I realize now that some people have a really short memory span in NASCAR."
