Tue, 13 Nov 2012 08:51:15 -0800 Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon was fined $100,000 and docked 25 points and put on probation for the rest of the season for intentionally crashing Michael Waltrip Racing driver Clint Bowyer in the Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway last weekend. "I take responsibility for my actions on the racetrack," Gordon said in a statement. "I accept NASCAR's decision and look forward to ending the season on a high note at Homestead." Bowyer finished in 28th place, eliminating him championship contention with only one race left. Also, owner Rick Hendrick was docked 25 owner points and crew chief Alan Gustafson was placed on probation for the rest of the season. Bowyer's crew chief, Brian Pattie, was fined $25,000 and put on probation through Dec. 31. Gordon's loss of points dropped him to 11th in the standings.

Crew chief Lance McGrew will now work with driver Mark Martin, Alan Gustafson will work with driver Jeff Gordon and Steve Letarte will be working with driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Gustafson is the crew chief for driver Mark Martin, and it is believed that he received a four-year deal through the 2014 season. He will likely be paired with Richard Petty Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne when he joins the team. Knaus is the crew chief for driver Jimmie Johnson, and his extension is for five years and will run through 2015. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
