RB Robert Edwards his working as hard as he can in his rehab and if he makes it all the way back the Patriots could have an all Edwards backfield. The signing of Edwards is expected to end the Patriots pursuit of Giants free agent FB Greg Comella. CB Kato Serwanga, who re-signed on Monday, will remain with the team for the three-month workout sessions that start next week rather than going to NFL Europe. The Herald reports only the filing of his paperwork to the league office is preventing the previously reported signing of OL Joe Panos from being publicly announced.

Edwards said he heard from offensive coordinator Charlie Weis on the first day of free agency. Although he had immediate interest things picked up last week. "I figured this was the best place for a fullback to be," Edwards said. The Patriots also re-signed exclusive-rights free agent CB Kato Serwanga. Updating some earlier stories, the team would only say they are close to a deal with OL Joe Panos, but no move has been made official by the organization - at this point.
