Updating previous reports, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis and Arizona Cardinals S Ifeanyi Ohalete have settled their lawsuit one day before it was due in court. Portis agreed to pay Ohalete $18,000 of the $20,000 that the latter claimed he was owed for giving uniform No. 26 to Portis a year ago. The settlement brought the cost in the case, not including attorney's fees, to $38,000. John Stern, the attorney for Ohalete, confirmed the settlement.

Redskins | Portis, Ohalete Head to Court Over Number Dispute

The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis and Arizona Cardinals S Ifeanyi Ohalete are scheduled to meet in court Tuesday, June 7, to settle a dispute over a jersey number. Ohalete claims he is owed $20,000 for giving Portis the jersey No. 26 when both players were members of the Washington Redskins a year ago. A contract drawn on June 4, 2004, called for Portis to pay Ohalete $40,000 in three installments. However, Ohalete was cut during training camp in August. Portis felt Ohalete's release voided the rest of the contract. Portis was to pay Ohalete $10,000 by Week 8 of the NFL regular season and another $10,000 by Christmas Day.

Doctors have determined Ohalete won't need surgery to repair the injury. S Todd Franz is expected to start in his place.
