The Boston Red Sox placed SS Stephen Drew (concussion) on the seven-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. RP Daniel Bard was also optioned to Double-A Portland, meaning RP Clayton Mortensen has won the final bullpen spot.

Fantasy Tip: Jose Iglesias will start the year as the team's starting shortstop. Drew is a slow healer and concussions can be maddeningly tricky, but Iglesias' weak bat should limit his worth to AL leagues for however long Drew is out.

However, the Red Sox are unlikely to part with Mortensen unless they are overwhelmed by an offer, according to a general manager who has looked into a potential deal. The Red Sox like Mortensen's versatility, and ability to pitch multiple innings.

The Boston Red Sox are not trying to trade away SPs Josh Beckett or Jon Lester, according to general manager Ben Cherington. However, they are willing to deal C Kelly Shoppach, OF Ryan Sweeney and RPs Matt Albers and Andrew Miller. RPs Clayton Mortensen and Junichi Tazawa are also candidates to be traded.
