Cardinals | Jaime Garcia allows one hit Thursday

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 14:56:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia produced a one-hit shutout against the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, April 14, to earn his first win of the season. He struck out a career-high 13 batters during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia bounced back from his first start of the season with one of the best starts of his career. He is scheduled to face the Chicago Cubs in his next start, which makes him a risky option in most leagues.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia returning to St. Louis

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 14:31:17 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia's 2016 option for $11.5 million was exercised by the team Monday, Nov. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia showed well in 2015 with a 2.43 ERA, 3.00 FIP and a 1.05 WHIP through 129 2/3 innings. His 6.7 K/9 leaves a lot to be desired, though. Still, pitching for a solid ball club should help his win total, so Garcia can help fantasy owners in three of the four standard categories for starters. He is worth a look in the late rounds of drafts entering the 2016 season.

Cardinals | STL expected to keep Jaime Garcia

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 11:14:51 -0800

The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to approve the $11 million mutual option on SP Jaime Garcia for the 2016 season. If the team had declined the offer, he would have received a $500,000 buyout.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia went 10-6 with a 2.43 ERA in 20 regular-season starts for the Cards in 2015. The 29-year-old left-hander has had difficulty staying healthy but should be a middle or back end of the rotation option for fantasy teams in NL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia exits with illness

Sat, 10 Oct 2015 19:09:59 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (illness) exited after the second inning with a stomach virus against the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of the National League Division Series Saturday, Oct. 10. He allowed four hits and five runs, all unearned, in two innings in the loss in his shortest outing of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) has been steady all season, so the lackluster outing can be chalked up to the stomach bug and the sloppy defense behind him. If he has another chance to pitch this postseason, don't be afraid to use him at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | St. Louis announces NLDS rotation

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 12:04:57 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SPs Jaime Garcia, Michael Wacha and Lance Lynn will pitch Game 2 through Game 4, respectively, against the Chicago Cubs in the National League Division Series.

Fantasy Tip: Wacha ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) and Lynn ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) both stumbled into the playoffs. Wacha posted a 7.88 ERA while allowing a .962 OPS to opposing hitters through his five September starts, and Lynn has allowed 13 runs over 27 2/3 innings over his six starts in September. Garcia ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) posted a more respectable 3.44 ERA through his six September outings, and all three are worth considering as No. 2 starting pitcher options at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia sparkles again

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 00:21:37 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia allowed a run on seven hits and retired 10 batters in a row at one point. He struck out eight with no walks and reached double figures in victories for the first time since 2011.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) is 10-5 overall, including a 7-1 mark since Aug. 1, and the team is 10-1 in his last 11 starts. In short, he is solid FantasyScore value no matter what situation.

Cardinals | Rough outing for Jaime Garcia

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 19:46:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia allowed six runs on six hits while striking out two and walking four over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cincinnati Reds Thursday, Sept. 10.

Fantasy Tip: The six runs were the most Garcia ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has allowed all year, and the four walks were his most since his season debut. His ERA still sits at a stout 2.38 for the year, so don't write him off as an option at FantasyScore because of one off night.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia fans nine in win

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 04:38:01 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia lasted seven innings Saturday, Sept. 5, and he struck out nine batters as the Cardinals won 4-1 over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has had injury issues off and on this year, but he picked one heck of a time to have a strong performance. As long as he stays injury-free, Garcia should be an integral part of your FantasyScore lineup moving forward.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia stout again

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 20:28:01 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia allowed two hits and struck out five over seven scoreless innings in a win over the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, Aug. 8, lowering his ERA to 1.77.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) has been impressive all year when healthy, and while he doesn't strike out a lot of batters, he is still a great value at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia activated

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 10:47:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (groin) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, July 28, and the Cardinals optioned RP Sam Tuivailala to Class AAA Memphis in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) will make the start against the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday night. He's been a very adequate starter for fantasy owners this year, but sitting him tonight against the Reds might be wise, especially at FantasyScore. Cincy ranks eighth in baseball with a .722 OPS against left-handed pitchers this year.
