St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) is scheduled to have his sore shoulder examined by Dr. James Andrews Monday, March 10, in Birmingham, Ala. Garcia will remain there for several days while physical therapists design a rehabilitation plan that is unlikely to involve throwing.
Fantasy Tip: No timetable has been established for Garcia's return to the mound but it's a pretty safe bet that he won't be ready by Opening Day.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) has been diagnosed with bursitis, which is the swelling of the fluid-filled sac between tendons and joints in his shoulder. St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season, but the team isn't ruling out the possibility. Dr. James Andrews didn't find any structural damage in Garcia's shoulder, but he'll receive a cortisone injection Wednesday, Feb. 26. He hasn't thrown since Feb. 18.
Fantasy Tip: It's great news that there is no structural damage, but Garcia just can't seem to get past his shoulder woes. If he can miss minimal time, the Cardinals may go with Joe Kelly to replace him in the rotation. If this is something that lingers well into the season, don't rule out Carlos Martinez making the transition to starter. Martinez has much more upside than Kelly and would be worth a roster spot in deep mixed leagues.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) threw off a mound without setbacks Friday, Feb. 14, and he's optimistic coming back from shoulder surgery. Garcia continues to build strength in his arm this spring. "It is a big difference," Garcia said. "I'm not going to get too much into it but when you have injuries come you try to change your mechanics or your arm angles so you don't have pain in your shoulder. It was a difficult thing for me. I was still being affected. You keep grinding through it. It is a different story. Now it feels better. That gives you the relief. It's fixed whatever I needed to fix in there. Now I have to stay on top of it so it doesn't become an issue again."

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) will be on the same schedule as the other pitchers when camp opens Friday, Feb. 14. Garcia said he pitched for two years with a tear in his labrum and ultimately had it repaired last May. Garcia said he learned how to pitch with his limitations, and it should help him now that he's healthy. During those two years, Garcia was 12-9 with a 3.81 ERA.
Fantasy Tip: Garcia is a sleeper candidate that you should look at late in your drafts. He's the only lefty in the mix for the Cards' rotation, and he could be a very solid late-round pickup.
