Cardinals | Jaime Garcia bumped up a day

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 19:07:14 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia will start on four days' rest Saturday, July 30, against the Miami Marlins, manager Mike Matheny said Thursday, July 28.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia is a solid option in NL-only leagues, but his mediocre ratios and strikeout totals limit his value in other formats.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia holds Padres in check

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 22:03:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia allowed one run on six hits in 5 2/3 innings against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, July 20.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia had a nosebleed that halted play in the second, but it didn't seem to affect him as the only damage he allowed was a solo blast to Matt Kemp. Although he hasn't always been in top form this year, Garcia has now won three straight decisions and hasn't lost since June 14. He's a decent option in standard leagues.

Cardinals | St. Louis sets rotation

Tue, 12 Jul 2016 16:14:15 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia will start against the Miami Marlins Friday, July 15. He will be followed in the rotation by SP Adam Wainwright, SP Michael Wacha, SP Mike Leake and SP Carlos Martinez.

Fantasy Tip: All five pitchers have solid matchups coming out of the All-Star break and should be starting candidates in most mixed leagues and daily fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia cruises to sixth win

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 21:54:16 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia allowed one run on four hits and struck out six in eight innings against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: After struggling in June (1-2, 5.40 ERA), Garcia had to be happy to see the Brewers on the schedule. The win was the 11th of his career against the Brew Crew, his most versus any opponent, and it even his record at 6-6 on the season. Garcia is a middling option in standard leagues, but he can be inserted in plus matchups.

Mariners | Adam Lind out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 12:36:10 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Adam Lind is not in the lineup Sunday, June 26, against St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia. OF Nelson Cruz will serve as the designated hitter and remain in his usual fourth spot in the order, while OF Franklin Gutierrez will replace Cruz in right and bat second. C Chris Iannetta will start behind the plate after a day off and hit seventh, while INF/OF Shawn O'Malley will replace OF Seth Smith in left and bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez is hitting .295 with six homers and 18 RBI in 88 at-bats against southpaws this season. Although he's not a recommended DFS play, he should make for a solid fill-in in regular leagues. Iannetta has performed well versus left-handers as well in 2016 and could be worth a flyer in daily as well as weekly leagues. O'Malley can be avoided in all formats.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia posts fifth victory

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 23:07:37 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia won for the first time in four starts Monday, June 20, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over 6 2/3 innings against the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: Monday marked the fourth time in five turns Garcia has yielded three earned runs or fewer, so his recent inability to win games has been as much about as the Cardinals' shaky bullpen and defense as anything. The 29-year-old southpaw is still a very capable back-end starting pitcher in fantasy, and he is a solid option for owners Friday on the road against the Seattle Mariners.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia suffers sixth loss

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 22:08:47 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia recorded a quality start Tuesday, June 14, against the Houston Astros, but it wasn't enough to avoid defeat, as he fell to 4-6 on the year with the loss. The southpaw worked 6 1/3 innings, yielding four runs (three earned) on eight hits. He also struck out two and walked none.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has been a little erratic lately, as he's seen his ERA jump from 2.86 to 3.93 over the past month. Furthermore, he's picked up only one win over that span. Even so, Garcia has proven he can be a reliable arm to lean on when he's in his groove, and will hopefully turn it back around in his next assignment.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia struggles against Reds

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 21:29:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia was tagged for 13 hits and five runs -- all earned -- in 4 2/3 innings against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, June 8.

Fantasy Tip: Point blank, Garcia has been struggling recently. Over his last five starts, the southpaw is 1-3 with a 6.38 ERA and a 2.08 WHIP in 24 innings. He has walked 10 and struck out 13 in that time. Garcia's numbers for the season aren't terrible, but it might be best to stick him on your bench for the moment.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia loses in Milwaukee

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 17:39:50 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia saw his record fall to 4-5 after losing his start Wednesday, June 1, versus the Milwaukee Brewers. The southpaw worked five innings, yielding two runs on five hits and three walks. He also picked up three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the loss, Garcia is still having another nice year thus far, owning a perfectly respectable 3.48 ERA in 11 starts. His strikeout rate has also been better than expected, as he's now racked up 58 K's in 65 2/3 innings. He's been one of the steadier lefties in baseball and there's no reason to believe that will change in the month ahead.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia bounces back

Fri, 27 May 2016 19:15:21 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia allowed two runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out four over seven innings in a win over the Washington Nationals Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia had allowed a combined eight run on 15 hits over 7 1/3 innings in his previous two starts, and he continues to run hot and cold. He is a low-end starter in deeper mixed leagues.
