San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said the team has a specific player in mind with the No. 30 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Baalke did not provide any clues to the identity of the player, however. "We have one person that we feel real good about that if we're not able to make some moves, if we choose to do that, up or back," Baalke said. "You got to be prepared to make the pick at 30, which we're prepared to do. You see how the board falls. We certainly have more than one person. But there is one in particular that we feel will be there. And if he is, we'll be prepared to make the pick."

San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said Wednesday, Jan. 12, that the quarterback of the future is not on the current roster, and that he'll look to draft, trade or pick up a quarterback via free agency, reports Daniel Brown, of the San Jose Mercury News. "Is the quarterback of the future on this roster? I think it's obvious that he isn't at this point, but things could change and they will change through one of those three vehicles," Baalke said in a radio interview with Mike Florio, of ProFootballTalk.com. It doesn't sound like QBs Alex Smith or Troy Smith are in the plans to start in 2011.

Mike Sando, of ESPN.com, reports San Francisco 49ers president Jed York announced a "mutual parting" with general manager Scot McCloughan, using the term "private personal matter" to avoid discussing the matter in further detail. York said McCloughan is unable to join another team until after the 2010 NFL Draft. York is unsure if he will hire another general manager for the long term, but director of player personnel Trent Baalke will "take over" and run the draft. York said he and executive vice president Paraag Marathe will not be the team's next general manager or fill the role effectively.
