Arizona Diamondbacks RP Kam Mickolio said he started throwing more offspeed pitches while with Triple-A Reno. "I've been throwing a lot of (offspeed stuff)," Mickolio said. "I've been getting a lot of swings and misses off of changeups and getting a lot of contact on sliders. It's all been positive."

The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned RP Kam Mickolio to Triple-A Reno Wednesday, April 13, and recalled RP Esmerling Vasquez, according to The Arizona Republic's Bob McManaman. Mickolio had a 9.00 ERA with a walk and six strikeouts in four games.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP David Hernandez will begin the year as the team's setup man to RP J.J. Putz in the ninth inning, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert. RP Joseph Paterson will be the lefty specialist. "Just based on his stuff," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's got power stuff, he can overpower people. It's just an organizational decision. That's how we're going to do it to start out with." RPs Aaron Heilman, Juan Gutierrez, Sam Demel and Kam Mickolio round out the bullpen.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to terms on one-year contracts with Ps Josh Collmenter, Sam Demel, Barry Enright, Juan Gutierrez, David Hernandez, Dan Hudson, Juan Jaime, Zach Kroenke, Kam Mickolio, Kevin Mulvey, Jordan Norberto, Yonata Ortega, Joseph Paterson, Rafael Rodriguez, Carlos Rosa, Leyson Septimo, Daniel Stange, Brian Sweeney and Esmerling Vasquez, Cs John Hester and Konrad Schmidt, IFs Tony Abreu, Brandon Allen and Ryan Roberts and OF Cole Gillespie and Gerardo Parra, according to a team press release. All players on the 40-man roster are now under contract for the 2011 season.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Juan Gutierrez is expected to be the front runner for the team's eighth-inning role, with RP J.J. Putz ticketed to be the closer, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. RPs David Hernandez, Kam Mickolio and Brian Sweeney could also be counted on to play big roles out of the bullpen.
