Redskins.com reports the Washington Redskins have signed rookie OL Alex Sulfsted. The team had one roster spot available after C Mark Fischer was placed on the injured reserve today after suffering a torn ACL in practice Wednesday.

The Washington Post reports Washington Redskins C Mark Fischer tore his anterior cruciate ligament during Wednesday's practice and will undergo season-ending knee surgery. Cory Raymer is the starting center and he will be backed up by rookie OL David Brandt. The Redskins could be without two rookie defensive starters Sunday, CB Fred Smoot (knee) and LB Antonio Pierce (groin). Pierce would be replaced by Robert Jones and Smoot would once again be replaced by CB Darrell Green.

The Washington Post reports Washington Redskins C Mark Fischer will likely sit out the next week after undergoing an exploratory procedure on his sprained knee. It does not look like surgery will be required.

The Washington Post reports Washington Redskins LB LaVar Arrington has been upgraded to probable after he was able to return to practice today. Arrington was held out of some team drills as a precaution, but said he's confident he will be able to play -- if only in a limited role. RB Stephen Davis (sore knee) did not practice but he is expected back to work on Friday. C Mark Fischer (sprained knee) is questionable for Sunday.

The Washington Post reports Washington Redskins coach Marty Schottenheimer named OL Dave Szott the starter at left guard ahead of Matt Campbell and undrafted rookie David Brandt the starter at right guard over Ben Coleman. The coach selected Kevin Mitchell over Robert Jones at middle linebacker and reaffirmed the choices of Cory Raymer over Mark Fischer at center, Donnell Bennett over Bryan Johnson at fullback, Rod Gardner over Kevin Lockett at WR and David Terrell over Keith Lyle at free safety.
